Liverpool ready to make January swoop for Swansea star

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has turned to former club Swansea in an attempt to bolster his strike force. The Northern Irishman who brought Joe Allen with him from Wales now has his eyes set on Swansea striker Miguel Perez Cuesta, more commonly known as Michu.

The former Rayo Vallecano striker has been nothing short of a revelation since his arrival from Spain in the summer and has already bagged thirteen goals in eighteen appearances in all competitions. The striker leads the league’s goal scorer’s charts, ahead of the Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez. Michu’s performances have alerted many European clubs and Swansea manager Michael Laudrup will need to fight to keep his talisman in Wales this transfer window. The Danish manager wants £30 million for the number nine but a more appropriate and realistic bid of £10m would suffice, given he arrived for a mere £2 million six months ago. The Kop boss was interested in Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge but his demands of being a center forward and £80,000 a week could prove to be an obstacle, and has since turned to Michu.

This transfer looks as if it can materialize given Brendan Rodgers’ relationship with his old club. Laudrup’s valuation of Michu seems ridiculous and with English sources claiming that he is willing to let his striker leave for a sizable amount, Rodgers may table a bid very soon. Liverpool owners FSG have promised their manager the funds needed to push for a top four position and it looks as if the manager may spend more than he had planned to get his target. With Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque also keeping an eye on Michu, the striker may increase his chances of representing his country if he were to pair up with Suarez at Anfield.

I've highlighted the amusing parts for comment

Where did you find this article?
Liverpool can **** off. They made their bed now lie in it. If Suarez cost £22m then given that Michu is newer to this league, plays deeper and scores more than Suarez then his value is easily £30m+
Swans don't need to sell but Liverpool can have Moore and Lita if they are that desperate!

Liverpool can't even try to sign any of our players due to an agreement being in place.

Brendan to visit his mate huw with the purpose of offering a tidy sum for mishu....red hot news from the liberty....I don't think we will get anywhere near £30 million but should at least match Joe allens release clause of £15 million....I suppose it will all come down to what michu wants to do and as its rumored that Brendan is to meet huw personally then michu has been sounded out imo. I hope if huw agrees to sell will tell him not till the end of the season though. the good thing is that this will start a bidding war from teams that really want him, But crafty brendan will use his association with the club and a personal friend of huws to get in first.....Does this come as a surprise that clubs will want michu.... absolutely no it was bound to happen.....

    Cheers.

Just noticed that the Mirror have taken the article from the Sunday People! Not sure i'll be trusting the Sunday People for any transfer news to be honest...

I think it's a reasonable suggestion to state that clubs are now looking at Michu and Liverpool may be one of them. Doesn't mean we'll make a bid or take the potential interest any further.

I still think he would be best served to stay at Swansea till at least the summer. Laudrup took a chance on him when it seemed like no other English club was prepared to (That looks pretty daft now!) and i'm sure Swansea would like to think he would repay that faith shown in him by not leaving so soon.

My feeling is that he'll stay until the summer at the very least. If he continues this outstanding goalscoring record throughout the season, you'll have a lot of clubs looking at him and you may be given an offer you can't refuse.

My opinion is that a transfer won't happen in January.

I agree Chris and if he does go in the summer it should be to a better team than Liverpool. I could see him doing a job for one of the Manchester or big London clubs easily

I have not been on here since Friday and spent all day out yesterday and come back on line about an hour ago...no mystery really.....I agree above that i hope we can make a deal if huw sells to his mate that he cant have him until the seasons over.....Money talks though and michu would have to be compensated for a possible loss of wages which we may not want to do and could force huws hand to let him go......

Guys I honestly believe Michu will stay because:
    a) The swans PR recently has been talking about buying hungry players with something to prove (Michu will need to show consistency over more than season to have done this properly)
    b) If Michu was completely money driven he wouldn't have invested in real Oveido. If he was a money man he could have stayed quiet and bought a new Bentley (or ten). He didn't, he has invested money keeping the club alive despite the fact he will never see dividends or even get his money back.

So I think he is an Honourable person who will see out his contract, enjoy being the main man at the club who gave him his Prem break and will relish the challenge. we all know he is destined for a huge club one day (Barca, Real, Juventus, Bayern, Man Utd etc) but I really don't think he will leave us for 2-3 years.
One day he will break our hearts but I sincerely hope that will be the day he plays his last game in white before retiring a Jack.

I don't think that Michael Laudrup will entertain any offers for Michu because the last thing that Michael Laudrup is, is an idiot. Michu is our "go to" man for goals and offers a whole lot more than that. If he goes, who else will get the goals for us?

As for £10 million, that has to be the joke of the year!!! With all due respect to Joe Allen, if Liverpool valued him at £15 million then Michu has to be worth AT LEAST £20 million. A goal scoring midfielder is almost priceless in the Premier League. Brendan Rodgers is a royal pain in the ass and should go away and scout his own bargains. If he can't do that then at least do us the courtesy of offering market value.

The fact that we bought Michu for £2 million is completely, utterly and totally irrelevant! Part of the reason we appointed Michael Laudrup was because we knew his name would attract players (which it has) and we knew that he would find bargains in La Liga because of his connections there (which he has).

Why on earth should we allow Liverpool, or any other club for that matter, to benefit from that? If Rodgers is going to argue that we should accept £10 million because we would be making £8 million profit, Huw will quite rightly counter argue that if we sell him, for say £20 million (which is closer to his value) we will make £18 million profit. Let's face it, if we sold Michu for £10 million, we would have to spend at least six of that on a quality replacement with no guarantees that the new guy would be successful.

One day, Michu will go but I hope that won't be any time soon. Mr Rodgers can also go, but I won't be allowed to say where on this forum.

Ivor, that's Breandan's problem he can't scout players, has to look at ex clubs and players he's worked with before.

Like i said...never say never in anything to do with football..Laudrup will know that all to well having been sold himself around the clubs.....just remember Money talks whether for us and more so what money the player can earn......dont be so deluded that we will say no because we might not have a choice if michu have had his head turned towards a life changing deal....Lets wait and see what develops shall we....

Well if Michu goes for a figure less than Mr Laudrup thinks he's worth then say good bye to him as well. He knows the value of such a player and if he's undermined by the club then history may repeat it self Huw may well be friendly with rodgers but our club maintaining and progressing in the PL I would think far out weigh a "friendship". Huw is accountable to us not to rodgers

    Keep up Dai ,

Swansea boss Michael Laudrup has warned the clubs circling Michu that they will have to part with at least £30 million if they are consider bidding for the Spanish star.

The 26 year old has been the star performer for the Swans this season and demonstrated his quality has he bagged a double as they beat Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium, putting level in the goal scoring charts with Robin Van Persie and Luis Suarez.

Even though he was only brought into the club in the summer there is already speculation that he could be on his way in the January transfer window, but Laudrup has squashed these rumours.

He said, "I don't want to let him go, sometimes the offer can be so big you have to accept but I really don't think clubs are going to pay so much money for him.

"We have the example of what Liverpool paid for Joe Allen, if they have to pay double for Michu there are few clubs who could afford that.

"Joe went to Liverpool and you know more or less what they paid for him, but a guy who has scored many goals must be worth a lot more, so you work out the figures.

"I don't think anyone will come with that money so he will stay here."
