Hello chaps There are rumours flying around everywhere about Owen due to have a medical at Everton tomorrow. The Echo are running a piece on it: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/everton-fc/everton-fc-news/2012/07/13/everton-rumour-mill-pienaar-to-sign-junior-hoilett-snubs-blues-as-michael-owen-set-for-goodison-medical-100252-31389285/ How do people feel about this? Owen in a blue shirt in front of that lot? It makes me sad to be quite honest. I grew up watching Fowler and Owen and would of never expected this. He's like Fowler playing for everyone United fans hate, yet much, much worse as he was one of ours. Moving to United was a total insult, but going to the blues will be bitter. Very bitter. (If true) He's not surely - is he?!
Wasnt Owen an Everton fan growing up. Fact is he's never been one of us, just happened to be lucky enough to go through our academy. He showed his true colours along time ago, he has numerous chances to come back. No more with the United time.
I don't think he really gives a damn about us to be honest and I couldn't care less where he goes. Everyone knows that England has always been his main priority and now it's all about horse racing. He blew his ties with us when he ran down his contract and forced our hand to accept a ridiculously low offer for the European footballer of the year rather than risk losing him for nothing the following year. Since then, we've gone on to win 3 trophies and his career has nosedived dramatically.
Never been one us? After 250 games for us, growing up at the club and coming through the ranks? Doubt that somehow. All though his actions perhaps suggest otherwise. Not sure I buy the 'luckily' bit either. We made him the player he is now, and was at his best.
Would be par for the course. Just cements his position as the No 1 non-Kop Idol of all time. Go rot scum
Meh. Wherever he goes, he'll be on the bench and not getting game time anyway. Seems to think he's too good for the Championship and I think he won't get 90 minutes week in, week out in the Premier League. Couldn't care less where he goes to be honest.
Correct I expected Owen to join Everton before he went to Man Utd. I can honestly say I couldn't give a monkeys where he goes, he won't be playing much regardless. He is far too injury prone plus he is of Championship standard at best nowadays IMO
Good luck to him. Was a good player, but lost it due to injury. Not a patch on fowler. Heskey made Owen look good by doing all the donkey work
Don't be bitter... Owen was fantastic for us but was never loved in the same way as Fowler, Carragher or Gerrard because he cared more about playing for England, his horses and estate than his employers
I meant, he was never a fan or really committed to the club. Take Carra, also an Everton fan growing up, difference is Carra has come to love the club like a fan and commits his all to the club on and off the field. Owen on the other hand used the club as a stepping stone, he played and played well cause he was a talented player. However when the time came he showed he didnt really care about the club and ran off to Madrid.
I know he's no Fowler but i'm not going to just ignore the games he played for us like quite a few here and accept its a normal and acceptable thing to do. The guys a bastard!
The Blushite have recently signed Naismith to add to Jellyfish,Anechbe etc,so if there's any truth in it he'll be a bit part player like he was at Man U. So after all this time he could follow in his dad's footsteps and play for his boyhood idols.
See the stage we were at as a club meant that Real was a stepping stone and I have no problem with that. Fair enough. I actually atribute the lack of dough we got from him down to Houlier who let his contract run down until he was worth nothing. He however then went to play for United and Everton - the two clubs I would ask any players, along with Chelsea, to never leave to. Must of slipped off the stepping stone for Newcastle then!
the reason I asked my last question was because I suspected your feelings towards Owen were generated from him joining Man Utd. If you was in his position at the time, I reckon you would have done the same. Hell, I can't stand Man Utd but I'd probably have done it too. You see, he was on the scrap heap (a bit like now) but Fergie offered him one last opportunity to challenge for the league title, something every player should want. His other options were Stoke, Everton, etc. Would you really sacrifice your career over a previous club (that he didn't support as a boy, he supported their closest rivals)? Edit: that doesn't mean I liked it any more than you did, it just means you have to consider his situation rather than just a fans view!
Oh ay fellers, be bigger than this! Won us a cup final single-handedly and carried the team, with Gerrard, in the final years of Houllier. Did stitch us up over his contract (as did mcmanaman, but he never gets this hatred), and more power to rafa to declining real Madrid's offer to sell him back to us the following for double the money we got for him. He undoubtedly wanted to come back then and was prepared to take a pay cut on what he was on at Madrid and what Newcastle were offering. And let's be honest, with the injuries he got at newcastle we got off lightly there. Still managed to get a dig in when he won a prem title with Manure though... but let's be honest, we've all burned our bridges before then.
