I've always thought he was a terrible player and have said so on many occasions only to be shot down by you lot. It seems that every Man Utd fan rates him. I didn't get it. So I've made a point of paying attention to him when I've been watching you lot on the telly, I've been doing this for about 2 months and I now agree that he does a very effective job for you in midfield breaking up play and starting attacks. His passing is limited but he seems to know this and keeps it simple, he also doesnt like a tackle if a player is running on his left hand side and gets caught out at times. Other than this his positioning is good, he knows when to foul and keeps the ball well. So I retract my "he's ****e" statement as I understand his role a bit better.
i've been a fan of his ever since he joined us, he's been class for us this season, everyone goes on about RVP but Carrick keeps us ticking, if he plays well, we win.
Watch him central midfield when he's surrounded by four or five opposition players and he's looking for the ball and distributing it on in heavy traffic and very rarely ****s up. Class.
we're lucky to have him, to think there were reports that we were interested in swaping him for Rodwell, luckily we didn't.
at his first season, we win the title first time after 3 years in the shadow .. and he was the only addition .. what that tells you? he cover all the wholes in the back ... he create all chances from the back some said alonso was crap too .. am sure you seen how crap he was when he left your club and you never back into top4 again both are great passer of balls, but one is better defensively while the other have better long range shoots
I've always thought Carrick's greatest strength is that he knows his own weaknesses completely. He rarely tries something he can't do, which is exactly what you want in that position. He rarely misplaces a pass in a dangerous area, almost never lets the ball go past him without staying on his man, never tackles unless he knows he'll win the ball or he absolutely has to, and is almost always able to break up attacking moves by reading the play and staying in the right position. He reminds me a lot of Makalele in that regard - he does so much with minimal fuss, and he's at his most effective when you barely even notice him. He's absolutely ideal for the PL, the only time he struggles is against really world class midfields like Barca where he seems to be waiting for an opportunity to win the ball that never comes.
True Gonzo, to me if there was a United best 11, i would have him in my squad, also he should've played for England more times than he should.
Teddy Sheringham: I played with Michael Carrick for two weeks at West Ham, long enough for me to realise he is outstanding." #MUFC
