No, I said effort as opposed to passion which is what supporters would be able to exhibit. Being able to put in the same amount of effort as Meyler would require them to be able to cover the field as much as Meyler does, which supporters with no fitness wouldn't be able to do.
I think that would be a reasonable argument earlier in the season, but we're six weeks in now and he's played nine games, you'd expect that he's have completely caught up by now.
Everybody is skirting round the subject but I'm just Gona say it, Slutsky is **** , but he is friendly and waves so it doesn't matter ,no point wanting him out because who else we Gona get? But doesn't mean we have to pretend he's any good .
Lenny doesn't rate meyler and he's bang on, unfortunately he's picking 2 clowns that are worse than meyler. Let's not get carried away but if you read this board you'd think meyler was the second coming, he's bang average who gives the ball away to often, bollocks to all this effort and passion that doesn't make him good. He just runs around a lot and if he didn't give the ball away as much he'd only do half the running, the fact people want him as captain is the perfect example of the mess we are in. Rant over, I'll now put my tin hat on as the rose tinted meyler brigade will be along to lynch me
He did pretty well in Russia, I don't think there's anything to suggest he's ****. Just hasn't figured the team out yet.
I'm cautious of being as effusive about Slutsky as others, as I am not convinced of his coaching style. He comes across as a jovial man who tells you what he thinks you want to hear. He picks teams and formations that are nonsensical, are then proven to be so and then he repeats the process; his excuses for doing this are cringeworthy. It is difficult to make a real assessment of the team until they are played to their strengths, but it is clear that we have some poor quality in the squad. I am pleased that Larsson seems to be doing okay in midfield, although I believe the travesty that is Henriksen might be masking the reality, as we badly need better. I think our parlous state is best described by Meylers meteoric rise to fan idol of the footballing fraternity of the club support; he certainly made a difference and that just about sums it all up. Sad and scary for a team with critical start-up injuries, key players who are prone to injury and a bloody hard season in front of them. If Slutsky and Meyler are the answer, it really should concern us all what the question is...
Agree with this. Meyler is essential for the team right now, but once Irvine and Toral have settled in and Stewart is fit again, let's see how things look.
For someone who has followed Dawson's time with us I am alarmed at just how crass your post is. Dawson is a quality footballer in the twilight of his career; but to expect him to sort the defensive clusterfuck that has been cobbled around him is simply ****ing moronic. To expect him to undo Slutsky's abysmal mistakes, just because he is the captain is equally moronic. Your understanding of the problems we have is juvenile.
To be fair, every manager doesn't rate Meyler but when the sh*t hits the fan they all pick him. I have noticed he doesn't struggle to play 2 games in a week, but he tends to give a lot of free kicks in the second game and his passing goes array. However, this moment in time it's a no brainer. He spent half the second half filling in for Aina as he wandered about randomly. Dawson on the same side as Aina will never work. Tomori looked like Chester second half, assured, quick and read the game well. I watched Henriksen all first half. What the hell does he provide. When we have the ball he doesn't want it and when they have the ball he marks space. He's possible the worst midfielder we have ever had in the top two leagues.
Plenty most likely agree, though he has a place as a squad player. But I'll ask again as I'm not sure people saw my other post, why didn't we get someone to replace the loss of Livermore?
I agree with this. 8 games would take us to circa November and unless it’s an absolute out-of-touch disaster, I’d be tempted to extend the period of scrutiny to Xmas. From what I learnt, Slutsky is a good manager who has been handicapped by various practices by the club. However, that said, we don’t want (or can’t afford) to be paying for his Championship apprenticeship. From what I have seen, I don’t rate the teams in this division. I do think there’s much more to come from this squad too. Definitely, it’ll need tending to in January, but I honestly see some good players in there and enough to go on a run and raise a challenge to this division. Without wanting to sound clichéd, we need something to click (think someone else on here used this phrase too). The big question is over Slutsky. The Championship has well known challenges and does he have the parochial nous to wring the maximum from a squad that does have strengths.
