Sunderland AFC News And Banter Page: Sunderland manager Martin OâNeill has hailed David Meylerâs sunny outlook after seeing the midfielder make his full international debut. Meyler played the full 90 minutes for his native Republic of Ireland against Oman on Wednesday evening to earn his first senior cap. It was a particularly sweet moment for the 23-year-old, who has battled back from two serious injuries to bounce back on to the first-team scene at Sunderland. But his team-mates will have been just as delighted with OâNeill rating Meyler amongst the most popular figures on the playing staff. He said: âDavid is a great character in the dressing room and on the training field â heâs always got a smile on his face. âEven Iâm feeling grumpy myself, itâs hard to imagine him being anything other than appreciative of the footballing life. âHeâs had a torrid time with injuries so itâs great to see him doing well. âDavid is one of the most popular players in the dressing room, and I think deservedly so.â
Who do you rate more highly - Meyler or Colbeck? I think they are in direct competition for a midfield place
Got to agree with the rest and go for Colback/Colbeck how ever you spell it, Meyler hopefully will come good but it is taking a lot more time than I think we have.
Yep. Two very different players who could complement each other but Jack needs to score more/build confidence in the final third to really progress
well it seems that mr malware has scared posters off the site, so i was looking back at the old posts , i must admit i was sorry myler was sold , he had not been given a chance imo
not much between them but they are only bench warders for me we should have bought better in the windows he has had
Definately Meyler - I saw Colbeck for Grimsby last month and to be honest he didn't look great out wide.
