Everyone happy with these two? I’m open minded to Meslier starting but Kiko is an expensive number two and I’d be filled with fear if I see him having to start a game.
We have a number of other goalkeepers but I worry about Meslier and pushing him too far, too quickly He is great and I have more confidence in him than Kiko but I don't want to over stretch him too soon. Kiko can do a job and perhaps will become less accident prone now he is playing more but, old dogs and new tricks?
Happy with Meslier, inexperienced but is a good shot stopper, seems to have a good understanding with the defence, and distribution not too shabby. Hope he stays fit because Coco is just a mistake waiting to happen. Maybe we tried to get rid of him but due to his wages and uselessness there were no takers.
We've been linked with Martinez from Arsenal and Romero from the scum. If we can shift kiko then either of those as number 1 for this season with Meslier spending another year as back up.
Kiko can be great in fairness but he reminds me of Felix when he has no clue how to knock opposition players out of the way and catch the ball. He flaps and can miss and concedes. Meslier is the 3rd best keeper in France but still young, so I would love Romero to take over as first choice for a season or two backed up by Meslier
Putting Kiko back in goal fills me with dread tbh, not sure Meslier is ready yet but he'd be my choice of the 2. Don't think we'll get Martinez, looking likely he's signing an improved contract, even if it means he'll be number 2 there. I really would like a new keeper.
Happy with Meslier. Deserves his chance. Would prefer a better no.2 but I think we are stuck with Kiko. As long as Meslier can hold up mentally we should be ok. When he makes his first mistake we will find out how good he really is.
That's how i see it. It will be a sign of confidence from them in Meslier if we don't sign anyone. I've been happy with him from what i've seen - but he's only had a handful of games and keepers form/confidence can vary especially when young. I watched BPF a couple of times under heck and he was outstanding - next year under Bielsa he made some mistakes and his confidence took a bashing. Seems when we're spending big money elsewhere that it would be really high risk strategy to go into the season with these 2 as our only options in such a critical position in such a critical season.
I don't think we've seen enough of Meslier to say he's good enough but I'm more than happy to start the season with him as first choice as long as we have a decent back up. At the moment I'm not happy with Kiko but being a goalkeeper is so much about confidence. There's a reason Real Madrid bought Kiko and i''m not sure we could get a higher class of keeper to sit on our bench but we really need him to get over whatever's going on. I wouldn't mind if we got rid of Kiko and managed to get someone like Wayne Hennessey who has fallen out of favour at Palace and might believe he has a better chance competing with Meslier.
From what i understand, goalkeeping is really unusual in that you often have keepers who are career understudies (or at least become ok with being career understudies). Often these are guys who are unspectacular, safe hands - but more importantly, not that fussed about challenging for number 1 spot. It takes a different personality type. So often you end up with a 3 keeper scenario: 1. No 1. 2. Younger guy challenging to become number 1 3. 'safe hands' Our risk in my eyes is: - meslier is 1... but maybe should be 2. - Kiko doesn't fit the profile for either 1. or 3.
they might take meslier but unlikely they'd want kiko! I read BPF signed a new contract for them recently, so presumably they rate him more than most leeds fans
Go on, surely they'd like to take Kiko off our hands now their other international, Joe Hart, has left?
BPF is going to be their "cup keeper" this year. After not playing a domestic match for over 17 months he must really be looking forward to a Carabou Cup draw away at Oldham or Northampton.
Sure, he'll have to make do with his international appearances as he's behind who many people consider to be England's best keeper. Not sure what your point is. Mine was they obviously don't think they signed a dud
My point is that he's one step closer than last year when he was reserve cup keeper to Hart. Burnley have a good record with young keepers so he's probably in the best place.
Fair enough, I imagine that's why he went, though i suspect he's bored of clicking his heels. Hey, it's the past - more bothered by what we do or don't do on the keeper front this window!
Kiko is unpredictable and accident prone. The thing is it looks like we've been actively been looking for a replacement. for him, all summer. Romero might been an interesting choice as he wants to leave Old Trafford but OGS wants to use him as weight so they can get Grelish from Villa. Both Martinez and Romero would be a step up from Kiko TBH
