Lee Brown says the FA Cup clash against Tranmere Rovers is a good chance to measure the progress Bristol Rovers’ new-look squad has made since relegation at the end of last season. Rovers will face a side struggling at the wrong-end of League Two when they arrive at Prenton Park to contest a first round tie on Saturday. Brown said:
“It will be a good test to see how this squad measures up against a League Two side. They are a higher club than us and they are at home so most people will be expecting them to win; there is no pressure on us at all. I’ve spoken to a couple of the boys up there who used to play here and I know Eliot (Richards) is especially excited about the game. It has been a tough time for them up there because things haven’t gone to plan for them since they were relegated. It is a bit like it was here when I first signed from QPR and all the talk was about Rovers getting back into League One at the first attempt. It’s not as easy everyone thinks it is to just bounce straight back up.”

Former boss Rob Edwards paid the price for a slow start to the campaign by losing his job after just 14 games in charge to be replaced by Micky Adams. Adams has presided over three draws in the three games since and Brown added:
“There is usually an improvement in form when a new manager comes in. We’ve had it here a couple of times since I’ve been here when a new manager comes in and we've gone on an unbeaten run. You start wondering to yourself where that has come from after we’d lost a load of games before the old manager had left. It is strange that they haven’t picked up straight away, but that can change in an instant and we have to be ready and prepared for a tough game.”

It will be interesting, because I reckon sides near the top of the conference could give sides up to mid table in league one a run for their money. The acid test will be whether we can score...
