Hull City will allow Paul McShane to leave in January if it will improve his chances of playing at Euro 2012.

The Republic of Ireland international has yet to feature this season despite fully recovering from a calf injury.

Caretaker manager Nick Barmby told BBC Radio Humberside: "If it comes to January and he's not playing we wouldn't stand in a player's way of playing at a European Championship.

"We wouldn't want to lose him but I wouldn't do that to a player."

But Barmby added: "However, in football, you've seen it in the past where someone gets injured and Paul gets back in and plays well then he'd obviously stay in the team."

Sounds like Nicky doesnt fancy him that much. I thought Mcshane looked like a different player pre-season, probably better to keep him as back up unless he reverts to his old Neil Buckley style self

He played well last season at RB until we brought Rosie in, I remember one game at home (Watford I think) when he even looked like scoring.

He played well pre-season too, looking miles better than Hobbs IMO, was unlucky with the timing of his injury and Hobbs and Chester's form this season.

I only saw the Liverpool pre-season game and I thought he was poor. His defensive positioning was awful, and he was caught ball-watching on more than one occasion. Granted, his last ditch tackle on N'Gog was good, but N'Gog only got in the position that he did because PM was ball watching and completely lost him. It wasn't a particularly good run by N'Gog, but it was good enough to evade PM.

I don't think he is worth the wages that we are paying him so I would prefer we got rid.

He showed form as good as anyone at that time. I would keep him, he gives 100% always, and if he goes I wish him the best of luck.

Says a lot about our defence if a player needs to leave so he can be picked to go to the Euros (arguably a higher standard than the world cup) because he can't win a place in our back four.

A four year deal at £24k a week, complete ****ing madness, he seems to have been with us for years but his contract doesn't run out until August 2013.

    £5m in wages. <yikes>

He's a good back up player to have, but lets face it, Rosenior is probably one of the best RB we have had at the club. He's not going to get in the team. He is a big part in Irelands team and he needs to be playing.

He's on a lot, wages-wise. And, we could get a decent sum for him.

He is worth another go if Hobbs or Chester get injured but I'm not one of those wanting to see him at full-back to be honest

The amount we are paying him a week we could spend on the wages of 2 decent (and arguably better) players

Considering we've been trying to give him away for eighteen months, with no interest, I think getting a decent sum for him is fairly unlikely.

We have cover anyway, Evans can play anywhere in the back four, plus we have Cooper and East to cover CB and RB respectivly. Still remember going mad at Anfield when he got that header though....

Wasn't McShane one of the few that took a wage deferral to help us out?

EASILY good enough in his chosen position at this level, nobody will take him on his money so bit of a non-story.

Pappa has said he aint gunna do anymore subsidised loans, so it's his money and we have an ideal "reserve" in case of injuries.

I don't think it's a non-story, it's more of an appeal for someone to come in for him.

OK I dont get this at all. How can the Euros be a higher standard than the World Cup considering the best of Europe play the best of the rest of the world, you know, teams like Brazil et al?
