We are know Maynard has been a legend for us over the last few seasons but with less than 24 hours to go and still no contract has been signed. If come January he signs a bosman and leaves at the end of the season on a free will our feelings towards him change? It is one thing if he leaves for a higher league club and we get a nice pot of gold for him but if he leaves for free it will leave a bitter taste.

As far as I can remember we have only had one player who has previously done it to us and most of us have still not forgiven Liam Rosenior for going the way he did

Or he plays well this year, scores enough goals to keep us up (which will be an achievement in itself!) and has seen out the contract he signed for the duration he signed it for. He then decides to move on to pastures new because he cant see the current club he is at is moving forward and has lost the momentum it had when he came here.

Cant berate him for that surely!

Lets also remember if he does sign a new contract will the club get all clingy and he cant speak to anyone else, etc. (bit like they are now!)

If I was in his shoes I would be doing exactly the same, makes business sense but not fan sense.

Nicky is showing a lack of loyalty in favoure of looking after himself, but if you can find me a footballer in todays game that will put his own personal career ambition and financial gain on the backburner to look after a club I will eat yesterdays pants.

If Nicky signs a contract it will not be for keeping him here, it will contain every escape clause in the book and as soon as a Premier league side fancies him he will be off. It will just make sure we make some money, wich is really all we can ask of the lad.

Noteable players that took the bosman or forced a move by not renewing a contract with less than a year to run on it include Paul Agostino, Darren Barnard, Shaun Goater, Scott Murray, Leroy Lita, Liam Rosinier, and Tony Thorpe.

In fairness to Barnard, I believe he could have left on a free but signed a contract with an escape clause that led to Barnsley having to pay £400k to take him.

I think NM has made it pretty clear he doesnt fancy Leicester, we wouldnt be able to stop him if thats where he wanted to go.

I think that the club as probably as much to blame (maybe?) but his future should have been resolved at least a week ago. Guess we need to wait and see what happens today

While the situation is destabalising, NM is just exercising his contratual right - so not a hero or a villain IMO
You can't blame the lad for wanting to play in the Premiership - I'm sure that if he was making noises that he wanted to go to another Championship club, the deal would have already been done (with Leicester or West Ham).
Who knows waht is going to happen in the next 10-11 hours - hopefully he will still be a City player!

Leciester fan in peace here! Apologies on how we handled the whole situation!

just wondering what your genuine views are on how it turned out. All the WUMs and saying "ahhh you didnt get your man", but how do you feel about your board rejecting about £7m for a player in the last year of his contract and extremely unlikely to sign a new one. I read an article saying it was as you wouldnt sell to a divisional rival... but we arent really. Us and west ham, without being big headed, are in a league of our own (financially at least) and WILL be promoted, be it this season for 4 seasons time! Would you have rather taken our money and invested it into a couple of players and secured the clubs financial future, or glad you kept your man?

Look mate, You're even condescending when your apologising!

Getting promotion is nothing like a certainty and from what I have seen of you, unlikely.

Would I personally have took the £7m, yes, but the £2m offer at first was derisory, I'm very surprised a prem club didn't come in. but I can assure you he didn't want to come to you.
