http://www.twtd.co.uk/news.php?storyid=21191&title=no_comment_from_jewell_on_edu_speculation I'm pretty shocked by this tbh, he must have gone seriously down hill in the past couple of years!! I thought he'd be way out of our league!!! I like how Jewell does not appear to understand how to be subtle: âWe are interested in a midfield player but I donât want to comment on speculation because heâs a Rangers player.â He just can't help opening his mouth can he?? Sometimes I think although I generally agree with most of what he says, sometimes he should just keep his mouth shut!!
Unusual post from you PTC as you normally put a lot more thought into your statements. This appears to be (with respect to both parties) a JWM throw your heart out of your sleeve posting. its difficult to put it into context when its only a one line report If he was asked 'are you signing Edu' then it makes sense as he is saying he is interested in a midfield player but wont speculate on Edu in particular as he is a Rangers player. I also think it is weird to say he must have gone downhill. Signing Rangers players currently is one of the easiest things on earth to do. 95% of their first team squad is leaving/ have left and with all respect to the scottish leagues I would imagine most players who are used to playing in the UEFA cup are not keen on going to grounds with an average attendance of under 2000 and no stands. He was looked at by a couple of premier league/ La Liga clubs a few years back who have decided he isnt at that standard but it doesnt mean he has fallen to such a ****ty level that he is worthy of only championship also rans.
I've clearly been sucked into paper talk. Didn't read what Jewell said properly. Clearly someone has asked him the question about Edu and he commented back which is fair enough. I just saw the name and got excited because I couldn't believe we'd been linked with a player and Jewell said the word Rangers, I put 2 and 2 together and got 3!! I wasn't really saying that he'd gone down hill, I just think if we've got a realistic chance of getting him, i would've thought he would interest PL teams and other Championship teams. Seriously though if we sign him, it could be a real coup!!
PTC, you may well have been right and it could just be my interpretation but I try hard to put 1 line quotes into possible contexts which I am used to you doing aswell.
Like I saw I just saw the name Edu and I read it that Jewell had said "It would be wrong for me to speculate because the midfielder I want plays for Rangers!!".
Whilst it is good to always look to strengthen the side I think midfield is the last place we should be concentrating on. I want to see us linked with a striker of defender.
i went to Rangers v St Mirren last year, and Edu was absolutely GARBAGE. Like people on here, I thought he was meant to be a cracking player. He had the desire to track back of - Kevin Lisbie. Absolutely zero workrate, offered literally nothing all game. I asked quite a few Rangers fans in the ground they're thoughts, and they all said " drive to next club on a free ". I really REALLY do not want him. Be massive wages for a lazy player. No thanks
I have heard a fair amount of stories that his name is a lot better than the reality of the player. However as always willing to give people a chance and there must be something there if rangers, who were a European level team have held on to him for so long and he still gets into the US national side. The championship could well be the right level for him to perform, provided if he can prove to the management he has the drive to do so at Ipswich.
" The championship could well be the right level for him to perform " I would completely disagree with this. The championship is all about hustle and bustle in comparison with the Scotish prem, where he would be often playing poor players with Rangers completely bossing a game. Against St Mirren, he was completely horrific. Imagine him in our side, where possession would be much more 50-50 instead of 65-35 in Rangers favour. Also, Rangers + Celtic were by some margin the best in the league. How is he going to cope in a side that quite often won't be the best team? Not very well. He would not be suited to such a frantic league. Has a nice touch don't get me wrong, but the off the ball etc would drive people crazy. With JET in the team we can't afford another non worker, especially in the engine room. A massive no no no from me. Zero time for him, I don't want us getting Bullard off the wage bill and then inheriting this player.
Fair point Westlake, you're the one thats seen him play. I suppose what i was driving at is that the tighter games could possibly spark something in him, although to sign players just on the hope they'll perform would be stupid. Wouldnt even know where he would fit in the team....
To be honest, I've never seen the guy play, but the people I've spoken to seem to rate him. To be honest I don't think the transition from SPL to Championship would be that hard for the guy. You only need to look at Charlie Adam who has been one of the divisions best players in recent years to show this. However, I'm in no position to judge as I don't follow Scottish football so I'm just going to have to wait and see. The only thing I will say is that I don't want the club to be lumbered with a player who never really fits in and costs a lot in terms of wages for at least three years/
At portman road today, sorry to be bearer of bad news westy. Personally i think this is great, especially on a free.
Don't know much about him apart from when he was younger he was very highly rated(if i'm thinking about the right player) so i'll give him my full support.
Bit of a touchy subject over here! Think it falls into the 'should have listened to you lot category!'
