Matt Smith is being rushed through a course of rehab. Part of the treatment requires a course of PRP injections, and the best people to stick the needle in are Spain - apparently. For the uninitiated, PRP is short for Platelets Rich Plasma. A blood sample from him is spun at high speed in a lab to produce an even bigger concentration of platelets that are then injected back into his injured knee, which speeds up the healing process. If you’re not squeamish after that you can watch the collision (brought on by a Hull player) he had with Marcus at the end of this clip - Matt has already had two trips to Spain for the treatment and the last is this week. The hope is that he will be back in light training in about 3 weeks time. It all sounds as though he’s a good few months away from being match fit.
I'll be glad to see him back to fitness, but I'm also glad that his absence means Mousa Dembele is getting a run in the first team. If Smith comes back to some genuine competition for the targetman's role, it can only be good for both him and Mousa.
