I was surprised to read in newsnow.co.uk about Lecointe being watched by the Premiership top-guns.

A good advert for the lad but I fear most top clubs will try to take advantage of our meagre league position and only offer pittance.

A few million would be nice though (if we can get it!).

The PAFC website has him being 16 - what's that thing about youth players being open for poaching - sorry recruitment - before they become they become adult professionals?

Another rule that favours the bloated Premier League and Championship over-spending hangers-on who after years of damaging the English game by recruiting nothing but foreigners are now hoovering up anyone with an English passport in the hope that 0.05% of them will one day be eligible under European squad quotas.

Or am I being too bitter?

It will come to the situation where lower league clubs can't afford to draw attention to their 16 year olds by blooding them in the first team until they are on full contracts. That can't be in anyone's interest.

Matt LeCointe is a promising young player............but he has started possibly two games and subbed quite a few more..........done reasonable well.........still to score his first League goal..........and that is about it...........if he moves on then the best of luck to him...........and the money would help........proper money this time seeing we will soon be out of administration............will he just get gobbled up in a big club and disappear for ever........never getting first team football in a big spending Premiership set-up.

We probably didn't expect to have young defender Nelson still with us, but he seems to be struggling with all thats been happening around him in defence this season........a sign of his youth I expect.........so that could be to our advantage for the future.

Will Paul Stapleton now become a Bradford City fan and follow his daughters husband Marcel Seip's fortunes........and finally leave Argyle alone.

Some years ago I went to a Torquay match and there was a lot of specualtion about a 17 year old being watched and wanted by Man U. His name was Sharpe. I took particular interest in him and to be honest could see absolutely nothing special about him at all. Maybe I was unlucky and it was the wrong game for him to shine but nonetheless that was my assessment. Just shows how much I know as his career is as they say history. The people who watch for Man U clearly saw something in him that they could develope. He went there and they changed his playing position over a couple of seasons in the reserves presumably and then they brought him out into the first team. My point being that it is the potential these people see and what they can turn the lad into rather than what they do right now. If we had older more experienced players he would never have been on show now. All I can say is that if it does happen then all power to the lad. There is no way you could stand in his way whatever Argyle are paid for him whether it be mega bucks or a cut price. He may be worth millions at some point in the future but right now I don't think many if any Argyle supporters would think he was worth anything like that right now. I think a big transfer fee is just wishful thinking because a premiership club is mentioned and we need money.

Sensible - t'was Lee Sharpe, he didn't fulfill his potential by a long chalk - took to booze and birds, think he picked up a nasty injury and dropped down the leagues and ended up on one of those wretched reality TV shows. Once was compared to Ryan Giggs!!

If my memory serves me well!

Some years into his career that may be true oldnickyb but not in the early days. Remind me, didn't he play for England? Hardly a failure in my book. Many players drop down the league later in life but it doesn't mean they were not successful in earlier days. George Best is one.

I confess to not having seen a lot of him but the market for UK born players is going to be distorted for a while. We may get a lot more or a lot less than he turns out to be worth. Some youngsters 'train on' and some reach their maximum potential early. It's a big risk but I guess it will come down to a big enough offer!

Sharpe was a good player but had knees made of glass which wrecked his career unfortunately. When you see the money paid for ´proven´ home talent Carroll being the obvious example you can understand why 500k or so gambled on a youngster makes sense.
In regards to LeCointe he will never make it in the top flight he lacks pace, confidence, first touch and as for shooting he would lose to a one legged man in an arse kicking contest. The only reason he gets a game for Plymouth is his mum washes the kit so the big boys would be better off saving their time and looking elsewhere :emoticon-0105-wink:

Hmmmm since my application to be Risdales lawyer failed perhaps the position of marketing manager for Heaney may be worth a go.
Sure I can find him some employment opportunities with the cartels out here in Mexico <whistle>
