Tweet from Official Rovers Twitter page today..... "John Ward has confirmed that Matt Gill is unlikely to feature in his plans, and that Matt is considering his future" And taken from The Post.... John Ward has told Matt Gill to consider going out on loan in a bid to play some competitive games. The midfielder was omitted from the squad that made the trip to Roots Hall to face Southend United on Friday night. The pair had talks last week after which Gill was told that his opportunities would be limited in the foreseeable future. Ward has an embarrassment of riches available to him in midfield following the loan signing of Andy Bond and the return from long-term injury of Seanan Clucas. Ollie Clarke is also close to being available for selection again after a minor knee complaint. Ward said: "Matt's not injured, I just didn't involve him in the squad on Friday night. I've got no problems with Matt, it's just that he has come back from injury at a time when I have a lot of central midfielders available. Seanan Clucas came back last week and Ollie Clarke is also back in training, so opportunities will be limited for him. I mentioned that to Matt last week and told him to go away and think about that over the weekend." When Ward was asked whether Gill would be available to make a possible loan move. Ward replied: "Yes. It is possible that could happen if Matt wants to do that. I've told him that I think it will be difficult for him to push into the first team at the moment, so I've given him the option to think about that situation and we will see where we are with that in the next few days." Happy days. Get him off the wage bill and get us a striker/winger! Your thoughts gasheads .
IMO what happens if JJOT gets suspended or injured all we have then in midfield is a bunch of 12 year olds if he goes go then that's another position we need to fill and who's to say Seanan Clucas will be any good this season JJOT is struggling we need experience to get us out of this mess.
Best thing all round. Terrible as a captain and never showed any form which made us anxious for him to be fit again. Saw him in 3 Development Squad games....OK, but nothing special.
I have posted many times that Gill and Kenneth will not feature in Wards future squad, way too expensive and not shown any quality to force them into the first team, obviously they are hanging on due to the wage and contract secured with previous managers which I do not blame them however it is holding the revamping of the team back with the lack of headroom on the wage cap. Feel slightly sorry for Gill as he does work hard and has picked up a few injuries, also the midfield partnerships have not been consistent (due to injuries etc) so this has not helped him, never convinced that he had it left in the locker. Whilst not wishing to be to harsh-Mr Calamity Kenneth always put pressure on his CD partner normally Parkes as he invariably made quite a few mistakes during the game which needed clearing up, always rash and slow in the tackle could not head the ball for Toffee unless it was skywards no composure on the ball (my opinion) obviously happy to pick up the wages nothing wrong there, hope that he has recovered from his nasty injury and is picked up soon to release more funds for the team. I also think that Clarkson is not in Wards long term plans, possibly a candidate for shipping out as he is highly paid and these funds could be spent more wisely elsewhere.Trouble is that he has a long contract, the only thing that has kept him around is our lack of strikers even then he warms the bench for most of the game. You cannot fault his application or commitment to the cause,he does offer that bit of experience we lack in some areas and knows where the goal is,livens up the game when introduced.Only thing is that his pace is not quite there and Ward tends to favour Harrold and Brunt up front leaving him a lot of ground to cover to get in the box or join the attack.I think he will get better with more time on the pitch not sure he will get it though. Not sure what the rukles are if we pay Patersons contract up as I do not see him playing a part for most of the season and his legs are completely gone aside from the injury. Anyone else we should ship out. Woodards (I know he is injured at the mo) will he play again? COR
Gill has done nothing in his time with us, as far as I'm concerned. He should go out on loan. Kenneth, I'm prepared to give him another chance - sooner or later we will lose Parkes or McChrystal to injury or suspension - we need some experienced backup and he's it. Clarkson, can be infuriating, but can also show real quality. I feel that he's still got a role to play with us - although I'm not quite sure what it is!
In fairness to Gill he has played in the worse Rovers teams in recent history he will probably succeed somewhere else
Why does Kenneth deserve another chance other than the losing Billy Crystal or Parkes to an injury or suspension reason posted by BB. G79 Gill is one of the reasons we have endured poor quality football not in spite of the rest of the team, agree he will probably as with all our ex players go on to enjoy success elsewhere. COR
You can't really blame one player on all our poor performance's Football is a team game if one players messes up then so does the rest of team and to honest I can't think of one stand out player in our squad since Lambert left I would get shot of the lot of em
Kenneth only had three months of football for us after returning from injury. He can be very rash at times I know, but when he keeps his head he looks solid.
He should eat less Yes I can Only joshing Oh yeh give Kenneth this book for Christmas View attachment 26705 COR
Any who Kenneth must be on a bit a week so he needs to either play all the time or if he doesn't then he needs to be shipped out to free up some wages I still think he has something to offer
he hasnt ever played for us fully match fit though. cant really blame him. its not his fault. a manager signed him knowing he is injury prone and gave him 3 year contract. managers have played him knowing he aint fit and carrying an injury. he has only had his injury sorted which by all accounts he had to fund himself and been treated poorly by the club (if reports are true). so its only now he is injury free but lack match fitness but not having a chance to prove himself. he has been poor for us no doubt about it but being told by a club official and reading comments from the guy himself he has always had an injury when he has been picked to play. so although poor, it aint really his fault. blame the managers who risk playing him basically meaning we play with 10 and a half men each game he played. i feel sorry for him but its just not worked out for him here. he is a high earner and injury prone and not match fit. not the sort of type of player we need now or should have ever looked at really.
Gill and Kenneth have a combined age of 59 (33 and 26) playing in an U21 CUP were they wearing wigs View attachment 26724
CJ agree with comments on Kenneth although sometimes we take a punt,it looks as if Mcgoo signed quite a lot of crocked unfit poor quality or injury prone players mainly from Scotland who scouted these players or did the research they should be let go for agreeing to sign pants players.
