Beaten by the team who were better in all respects from start to finish. Oxford started on the front foot and we hardly had a look in for the first 30mins and once the geriatric dithering scrote of a linesman on the lyndhurst side gave an offside (that wasn't) when we were in a promising situation the writing was on the wall.

Hapless defending for most of the time which also contributed to the simple tap in that was the first goal. Blanchard got himself a soft yellow card when he blocked off their player instead of attempting to run after him and our best effort of the half was saved by the keeper when Tomas really should have buried it from 4 yards out.

2nd half much of the same Blanchard duly picked up his 2nd yellow for pulling back one of theirs who had clearly beaten Maxine for pace (who doesn't?) . No complaints about either yellow. No idea what formation (if any) we were playing and Oxford were just far better. Poor defending and a quality finish resulted in their second and that was that.

Alessandra and Reid were the only ones who merit a positive mention and possibly Nelson. Either the players don't suit the formation or they don't understand how to play in it.

    Absolutely mediocre officials (again).

As much as I am not keen, Dave Kitson showed just what a classy player he used to be and played some nice touches all over the park.

Plus points, not many but i guess Southend and York dropping points means we still have a chance if we win our last four matches.

oh, and almost mathematically safe from relegation- i'll drink to that...

Thanks lyndy....it must be heartbreaking to watch a game like that..... we should of walked it.....Oxford's last ten games have been abysmal....yet they come to Home Park and make us look idiots.........Sheridan must take some blame.....it must of been obvious after 15mins that something needed changing....but he waits until we are 1-0 down and playing with only ten men....far too late......season over.......clear out time.... and questions over Sheridan being the right man to get us promotion next season.

Some serious questions to be discussed by James Brent and his very quiet directors.....how do we move foreward.....and is the so called development taking their minds and eyes off the real thing....THE TEAM....AND GETTING OUT OF THIS TERRIBLE LEAGUE.

Yes , as much as the 5-3-2 formation has worked away from home on occasion Thomas and Guirierri are NOT wingbacks so they either don't get back quick enough or are slow to get forward. We looked really weak and disorganized at the back, Wotton made far too many mistakes and Tyler Harvey and Connor weren't in the game enough . I guess that with Blanchard now banned we will resort to a conventional back 4. It wasn't so much that the players were individually poor but more that they didn't seem to know what they were supposed to be doing-esp at the back. Back to the drawing board I guess and try and play the best players in their best positions.

In fairness Oxford played well(ish) and I suppose our run in still gives us some hope.

Sorry, we ARE mathematically safe from relegation as Wycombe and Northampton have to play each other so both cant catch us. Now, wheres that red wine......

It was pants from start to finish lyndhurst so quite agree with the report in that respect. The lino was pants and the ref was pants so that didn't improve the experience one jot. The only thing that wasn't pants was Oxford who I thought were so much better than us it hurt. Sad thing was I thought they were better than in the Exeter game so it shows how absolutely aweful they were in that one. I've said it several times now there is no chance on this planet this team will be in the playoffs no matter how mathmatically possible it still is. The fact that they can be so inconsistent and still be where they are speaks volumes about the league as a whole. I swear it is 10 times worse than the last time we were here.

Agree with most of the above, except comments about the officials. They weren't just pants, they were the worst I've ever seen and that is saying a lot.

    Two incidents.

Gurrieiri "got his body in front" as the pundits say and was promptly kicked up into the air by his much larger opponent. Result? Free kick to Oxford.

Alessandra just about gets the ball past his opponent right on the Lyndhurst touchline. Both Allessandra's legs and those of the Oxford player are between lino and the ball and as it was either millimetres in or millimetres out, he can't see. Allessandra is away until the ref gives a throw in to Oxford from 20 yards away at right angles to the line. Couldn't possibly have seen from there but lino puts his flag up in support not having done so before.

It was obvious we'd lose in the first 5 minutes. Oxford had grown ups playing in every position and we had a handful of kids. Argyle started hoofing it right from the start whereas Oxford passed it. Reid had a defender stuck to his back like a fridge magnet from start to finish whereas their strikers found acres of space. NB don't think Reid was awarded a single freekick throughout the match despite being half strangled on several occasions.

As noted above, 3:5:2 may work with two full backs like Parsons and Berry in the wingback positions. It doesn't work against decent teams like Oxford with Gurrieiri and Thomas there. The back three were ferquently stretched out onto the wings instead of being a compact group across the width of the penalty box with the inevitable gaps in the middle.

Tw**s of the Match - Argyle "fans" giving Gurreiri abuse despite being played WAY out of position.
    Man of Match - Alllesandra
Ballboy of the Match - Allesandra - so keen to try to get a goal back that he vaulted over the fence into the old Mayflower stand to save a few seconds in getting the ball back in play.
YouTube Moment of the Match - lino making a "V" sign to the crowd behind his back due to very well justified abuse. If anyone has that on camera it should be brought to the attention of the FA.

PS Plymborn you've described us as being goal shy - I have to say there were two "how did they keep that out" moments in each of which we nearly scored at least twice to be folied by the woodwork, great saves or kicks off the line. Reid was also hauled back at the Demport End and should have had a penalty. However, that doesn't alter the fact we were outplayed in every area and Oxford could have had 5. I wouldn't say our forwards lost it, in fact both Reid and Alessandra did pretty well with precious little service or support. It was the other 9 that were the problem.
