What do you have on your Xmas dinner? Now it can be quite controversial this subject so remain calm. Some do like a yorkshire, deal with it. I have been out for Xmas dinner for the last 3 yrs. Its not the same and not as good. The food is probably a higher standard where we go, but I just think it lacks that homely feel. We would normally have at home: Turkey Pigs in blankets Brussels Stuffing Roast Tatties Roast Parsnips Roast Carrots Yorkshires (I don't care I'd eat them with anything you heathens) Cranberry Sauce We have had spiced cabbage too. This is what I have to choose from this year - which is all well and good but its not traditional is it? And there won't be turkey curry for 3 weeks after. Posh git. Is it 'all-you-can-eat' style? To be.honest I'm with you on the traditional xmas dinner. Much prefer it. And.yes we also have yorkshire puds with turkey. I can't stand sprouts though.
Bacon and butter is the key to sprouts, I love them though. Granny used to do bacon, chestnuts and sprouts. Aye it is posh. I hate going out but my mam has had 30 odd years of cooking for loads of us. Massive family. Nah its not all you can eat. We alternate between Jesmond Dene House and the Hotel Du Vin. I am deliberately dressing up like a tit this year to bring down the tone My mother is not going to like it. Really we should just have it ours with the missus and the little one but I like the big family rows.
Doing something different this year. Beef Wellington, probably with dauphinoise potatoes, and veg which I'm undecided on. Maybe lobster tails for starter, and I'll buy in a profiterole dessert. I'm cooking for 4 of us so they'll get what they are given. I'm just sick of turkey every year which is bland as **** and not a special meat so christ knows why we eat it every year. Actually it's because we've all been told to that's why. Yorkshire puddings don't belong on a Christmas dinner plate but please yourself.
Turkey and beef. Yorkshires made by a yorkshiremans hand. Cabbage, Colcannon mash, home made hobgoblin sage and chestnut stuffing. Carrots cut long ways. Frozen peas, green beans, pigs in blankets and brussels steamed and then dusted with garlic salt. And 6 cans.
To be honest, my Yorkshires are so ****ing good it's almost a crime for me to not serve them, but they don't belong and more to the point I need to not overfeed everyone because there are 3 courses to get through and everyone normally waves the white flag after the main course.
That's the thing, we don't have starters so there is room for yorkshires. Every roast deserves yorkshires. I don't care which meat, it's not a proper roast without them
I have 24 bottles of this on order: http://www.williamsbrosbrew.com/beer/caesar-augustus please log in to view this image They serve it in Vintage Inns pubs on tap and it's fecking lush.
I'll need more than 24 so you'd best get some more in. Oh did your missus not tell I'm coming to yours again?
I'll be getting in Carling and Stones for all the riff raff. **** the spirit of Christmas. The Caesar is all mine!!
Goose is my meat of choice. Absolutely delicious. And yes, Christmas dinner is not Christmas dinner without Yorkshire puddings on the plate. Also like turnip and garden peas on my plate along with pork or turkey and sprouts to go with roast and boiled potatoes not forgetting gravy. P.S. And pigs in a blanket.
After over 30 years in hotel trade I would never eat out on Christmas Day, menu at top is the worst excess of cheffy faff, prices are way out there as well, I did my last Christmas day in 2012, had too many battles with greedy owners who push prices and numbers, I keep it simple at home, Turkey Crown, never get a whole turkey, stuffing, pigs, roasties, carrots, peas and a good gravy.
We always get a free turkey so that will be on the table again this year. I've slimmed down the past two months to what is nearly my perfect body weight so I will be enjoying myself without going overboard. No starters....well to be honest, I never have done at Christmas. And I will most likely be driving so no Buck's Fizz for me beforehand....again, not something I've done in the past anyway. Plenty of roasties, turkey, veg and cranberry sauce. Might have small amount of trifle for dessert but again, I have my figure to think about will still have a cracking day though.
Has to be Christmas Pudding at Christmas Dinner but any other time a good trifle is the best pudding on the planet. Picture it fruit, jelly, sponge, set custard and cream....
