Class act. Surprised Arsenal sold him looking at their options in goal. Their loss is our gain. He has done the same as Migg did, he has taken his chance and flourished.

I love the Mig, and thought it would be impossible to replace him. BuUt through a stroke of luck and masterclass.. we have. Mannone is the man. And to top it all off, his distribution is a MILLION times better than Simon's. Least we keep possession most of the time when the keeper collects the ball.

How he wasn't an arsenal stalwart considering their goalie troubles over the years

Can't believe I doubted this signing.

The lad is a beast, and as mentioned distribution is immense, several times tonight he went to release the ball, then waited, quite visionary for a keeper.

After Mig's toblerone boots it's like having Pirlo in goal!

Under poyet he is quite the footballer! I wouldn't be surprised if he had the most touches by any keeper this season.

    Presactly. <ok>

I always thought some of the praise being heaped on Mng was over the top.
Raving about shots hit straight at him.
Mannone is making those saves and the harder ones with ease and as you say his distribution is thought out not just lumped upfield.

I was ****ting myself when Jasnuzj had that freekick late on edge of our box.
Nice of him to give Mannone a chance to make a save for the cameras. :p

Don't wish to diminish his display but I wouldn't get too carried away with him. His dominance of the 6 yard box is poor and take at a look at today's goals. Ball was glanced diagonally into box and he stuck to his line when he should have been making a move to meet the ball rather than let it reach Evans. Dropped to his knees for their second when the ball was whipped into the box when he should have been anticipating a whipped in cross which is just about all the Janiusja could do.

All credit to him for the other saves but his basic game still needs a lot of work.

In the shoot out, he went the right way every time.

Biggest and best compliment I can give him is every Sunderland fan will now be saying Simon who?

Who'd have thought that would be on our lips so quickly?

I think that shows as close to zero understanding of football as is possible! How on earth can you fault him for either?! Both the corner and the pull-back from Jan were totally out of the keeper's reach.

Sorry lad but got to disagree with you on this. The 2 saves he pulled off before the penalty shoot out were amazing and I cant find how he is responsible for our poor defending for both their goals. I think he is an absolute rock between the posts.

This. All players are fair game when it comes to criticism, but to criticise manone for their two goals is ridiculous. How the hell could he get to welbecks fluffed shot/flickon and beat Evans to the ball? He ain't Mr Tickle.

We said exactly the same at Hull. He was instrumental in us doing well over the last few years in the Championship. I think we had him on loan at least a couple of times and he's just brilliant. Mcgregor is very similar to Vito actually, two very good keepers.
