You cannot argue with that, he has done well with what we know about, and I am sure he knows more about the goings on behind the scenes than we do.

Malky Mackay 103 games, failed at zero clubs, popular at one, doing a good job in his current role.

Brendan Rodgers 107 games, failed at one club, unpopular at another, doing a good job in his current role.

BR will almost certainly be a Premier League manager next season, but he is more likely to take a role from which it is easy to get the sack. Malky won't get sacked here, and when he does eventually move on, it will surely be to a club with a (relative) reputation for giving the manager a chance.

NNW - as a statistician I would argue with you - BR - unpopular at 2 clubs :)

Failed at Reading - though he was only given a few months and I would argue Reading should have had the guts to keep with him after they ahd appointed him - clubs show zero loyalty to managers but expect loyalty in return.

The real stats I would like to see is wins draws and losses in those 103 and 107 games

His time at Reading didnt see many in the win column !!!,I suspect that would drag his win rate down !

Would we have lost the players we did if he had stayed though? For a start, i think Williamson would have stayed, and perhaps Priskin and McAnuff?

I doubt finances would have allowed that - after all even when we had sold all of them we stillcame perilously close to banjruptcy

    Stats are

    BR Wins 47 Draws 21 Losses 39 Win % 44 Wins minus losses +8
    MM Wins 35 Draws 26 Losses 43 Win % 34 Wins minus losses -8

So BR comes out well on top in pure stats. They say though there are lies, damned lies and statistics and I think this is a case in point as these stats take no account of the funds and financing of the clubs and at both Reading and Swansea BR has not been under the financial constraints Malky has faced - even at his time at Watofrd our squad was far "richer"

I must admit to finding those stats surprising I know the swans have done well, but reading went nearly half a season with only the odd win, indeed there fans thought rodgers was taking them down!

Got them from Wiki - usually their stats on football are correct - look up BR wiki - his record at Reading was 6-6-11 so not good but only 23 matches - they sacked him in less than 4 months - stupid to hire a bloke and fire him that quickly whatever the results

Well 6-6 11 is pretty bad but not enough games for him to really be judged

I read that the blunts have got rid of their latest manager. He only came in December, and they were already in a mess.

No surprise there!! just wondering if Colin gets binned from QPR whether he would consider going back to the blunts!

I have to take issue with a couple of points.

AB had to be sacked as he was taking us to relegation - look at the table after that disastrous Blackpool defeat. Aidy had run out of ideas long before and that balony about "promising to change the style". I thought he should have gone in Jan 08 before the slide to the Hull defeat. But I was amazed he survived that summer, with Simpson claiming money was "ring fenced"!!!

Larry will be cutting the budget this summer, allowing Eustace to leave is a big risk. (Could not accept the reduced budget, he jumped ship to Reading when he realised what the budget cuts meant.

When MM leaves he will go straight into a decent Prem team, he will deserve it and he will probably take Dyche with him.

Leo any suggestions of a 5 year plan for the on field activity is a long shot. If the budget continues to be cut, survival will become harder every season. In finance terms we are well down League 1, it is thanks to MM only that we are still in this league.

I only hope Malky can keep producing miracles.

Agree about AB - he was past his sell by date here. Remains to be seen whether he can recover his credibility but it looks increasingly likely that Burkinshaw was the power behind his successful throne.

Five year plan would be nice but I have no false thoughts that we will get anything like that - doubt Baz has a credible 5 minute plan.

Once we have recovered from the errors of our post relegation planning - which hopefully is now we are back to the "old" Watford. Our difficulaties stemmed from having overpaid players and with the end of Ellington as far as I am aware we are left with players on sensible Championship wages. If that is the case then we have as much chance in this league as we have ever had - we have always been one of the less well supported and less well off clubs but have relied on good management to plug the difference. I see no reason why from now on we cannot be as competitive as we were five years ago . In Championship terms our debt is far from excessive.
