MA and Youth Players

Another article which I personally feel is quite damning on MadDog's approach to our youth during his reign:

    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/fo...ool-and-Man-Utd-s-wishlist-to-Gillingham-exit

"I'd liked to have known what I had to do but football is about opinions. He didn't want me because of my size, that was his opinion. It's one of those things. I'm not holding any grudges."

"Before Martin Allen came in, I was thinking 'this is it, this can be my year'. I could see myself progressing even further and kicking on," he said.

"Then we then had a pre-season in France - and it was the worst week of my life, the hardest week of my life. The philosophy was always to be as fit and as strong as you can be.

"I'm not weak but I'm not the biggest or the strongest. I'm never going to be Akinfenwa. I can't run for a long time. I'm a quick, short, sharp player.

"Andy Hessenthaler was there [as a director of football] but Martin Allen has a very strong personality. He's the only one who is going to pick his team.

"He never talked to me individually but, as a group, all the focus was on us being fitter and stronger. When I came back from France, I was down to the under-21s."

Its sad to read this but to be honest I think we all knew this was probably the case. Obviously have sympathy for Ash but at some point you have to take responsibility, yes MA might not have thought you were his kind of player but surely if he was that talented he could have forced Martin to play him or at least get a good move away. Hopefully the American thing works out for him but the big thing I get from this article is that getting rid of Martin Allen was for the best, won the league and it will be a memorable season but behind the scenes it seemed he neglected the harmony of the club. All the best to Martin and Ash in the future but honestly I'm not upset either aren't still at the club.

The size matter is probably also why Danny Jackman didn't last longer than he did too. Oh how we could have done with a player of his creativity this season. :emoticon-0106-cryin

At least that's one thing you could not blame Stimmo for. His love of 'The Little People' convinced me he must have some
Irish blood in him. His only signing from the Giant Market led to tears before bed time with Big Mac.
On a slightly different note, I wonder how Mad Dog, with his homespun psychology, might have dealt with Big Mac.

I don't feel this is a youth thing just that Miller was a mad dog kind of player. But Miller also didn't break through with Taylor. I also think that Miller doesn't cover himself with glory by moaning about the hard work that MA made them do.
