He says he was shocked to be sold after just signing a new contract. This tells me our owner is very erratic. He wakes up and changes his mind very easily. This mood swings is not good for a club with 'ambitions'.
Morning Wasper, was thinking Cellino always wanted to get rid of Smith. He has only been played once this season, and the 3 year extension to his contract was so we could get more money for him.
we always knew Cellino was off the charts, and he's doing his best to keep his erratic reputation in tact .. with Cellino the "every player has his price" argument certainly rings true ... the young loanees who work out and sign up full time will be sold for a fat profit down the line, its the Cellino way ... Smith went because Fulham got the price right, if they didn't he'd still be at Leeds, don't think Cellino wanted to sell him until Fulham came calling, then it became a WTF situation, let's take the money now while its on the table, which is why Smith suddenly found himself in the "get rid of" category on deadline day Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
It tells me that the owner is not erratic it tells me that this was done with the intention of getting a more realistic price for Matt Smith had 1 year left max price 250k 3 years left 750k clever bot don't you think?
Well sorted piece of business. Smith was ok when we had nothing better. Got a decent price by signing a new contract, so time to move on. Good luck to the lad
I don't think Smith was gonna feature that regularly this season. He did reasonably well last season because we were desperate for a plan B constantly and also because of Ross imo. and he might do well with him at Fulham as well. In an ideal world he wouldn't get anywhere near our team.
Nobody wants to see the sort of football played that we play when Smith is in the side. Can also see Pearce coming out of the side cos he can't play football.
I'm tired of repeating myself, but we didn't play hoof ball when we had Chapman, I think it's a mistake to have sold him, he was a good option to come off the bench. I've not been impressed so far with Doukara though I realise he hasn't played much..
Don't think that's the case, Billy. Smith is on record as saying that he found himself on the 'get rid' list shortly after signing his new contract. This would probably have been before Fulham came in for him. I suspect Cellino had decided to sell him to anyone who wanted him before the contract was signed, as per Leeds60's post above. I'm not even sure that the price was right - didn't Millwall offer more money?
I feel for Smith, but I'm also glad he's gone because it tempts our not so good players to play hoofball. I think MC wants to see passing, flowing attractive football. We now have 4 strikers who would ll get a game ahead of big Matt and so I wish him luck.
Lee's captain and should stay away from the twitersphere before he gets himself in bovver. I also saw Sam Byram arguing with some fans straight after the window closed. They need to get a grip I think
I dunno what people have seen in Doukara to suggest he might not be good enough. Dunno about the Millwall game but no one played well there. Doukara was one of the biggest attacking threats in the Boro game, you could see defenders didn't like it when he would run at them and he also scored 2 good goals in the cup (albeit against a relative minnow club). Also has the ability to play up front or out on the wing. Personally am happy we have signed him permanently but there was obviously someone that we were trying to sign on loan that we missed out on. I didn't see Byram arguing with fans, thought he just said that his head hadn't been turned and accepted he hasn't played that well but that wasn't the reason, he was never going anywhere.
Again I will defend the lad he was trying too hard its often the way and very stupidly went in not intentionally with 2 feet straight red no arguing
Did you hear how Magath was defending him? "If the referee isn't going to protect the player, the player needs to protect himself" in response to Smith being taunted all game by the defender prior to the sending off
