Don't know whether Luke had tried to hide his injury. MP said that he understands that Luke wanted to play for his country but he has to learn to be patient and his time will come.

He did it while training with England.

I know, but wondered if he'd hidden it in order to go. Just got that idea from what MP said.

Think it's more how gutted Shaw seemed when he got injured. He tweeted 'just my luck' and his mum replied with support, so I guess MP is just making sure Luke doesn't get too down.

I always thought ligament damage meant a longer term injury?

ligament damage is a sprain. There are three degrees, each being worse than the last. A first degree would be about 2 - 7 days, and second and third worse than that.

Ok thanks. Better hope its only first degree then.

Well as RLSGM said it depends on what degree of damage. It also depends on what ligament you damage. for example injuring your medial ligament in your knee is generally better than damaging your cruciate ligament.

Cheers tom. I have much to learn in the ways of ligament injuries! Good to know that in the best cast scenario Shaw could even be back for the Man City game, although more important he's back for the Newcastle game the week after.

Well I have damaged ankle ligaments in the past. I was playing tennis and I turned my ankle right over and it bloody hurt! Wasn't any serious damage though and was fine in a few days.

I've been pretty lucky with injuries, had shin splints and did something dodgy with my knee but with rest healed in a month (both running injuries). My only football related injury involved kicking the ground (twice) and spraining my big toe, hardly a heroic injury! I've never broken a bone and have even managed to avoid a bee sting :emoticon-0103-cool:

Depends on the ligament, but yes I's normally associate 'ligament injury' with a sprain. Presumably if it were a cranial cruciate ligament injury they would be more specific (although that does explain him being 'heartbroken').

Looks like he can attend training, but, if there is any doubt, I'd rather save him for Newcastle.
