I agree. I was looking at lfc website and carragher was asked about 2001 and you know oh a cup double. he commented that we had the uefa cup then and said we were nowher ei nthe league but fighting for 3rd/4th just like now. basically this is correct. we've not wasted one year we've NEARLY (not quite) wasted 10 years work. I totally blame david moores and his amateurish, selfish behaviour. he went on record stating he whough fees i n1996... 1996!!!... were too high. he sold to a bunch of theives and scumbags and ruined all the work rafa had put into us. In 2001 we won a treble. by 2004 houllier was spent and bought badly and madly..... rafa came in and we won a CL and an fa cup then moore ssold up and since that point the harm and damage done by those american schisters means we are as bad or worse as we were under evans at the end. This year under new owners we've a cup final we are heavy favorites for, and a team under construction. Overall we are disappointing which goes to show expectations and investment made. I predicted also that 5th was most likely at the start of the year so the fact is we're not far off. A cup is more probably 94 other clubs can boast (not including lower league wins and such) that makes it a worthwhile year but i'm afraid year year is going to be huge , we simply have to crack 4th next year or we'll go backwards again. I'll be bold and predict city, utd, us and cheslea at next years top 4.... spurs to implode and arsneal to go the way of the dodo... this year though... god i wish we'd got a little bit more out of players we bought
I feel the same about finishing 4th, but if we can sort ourselves out after the cup final we play Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle who we are only 3/4 points behind. Those games can be our defining point of the season, we just need a good run of results in the easier fixtures which we have struggled to beat so far.
I would say there's no point risking him getting injured further this season, unless we are in with a chance of a CL spot in the last few games, or the FA cup final. Not sure it would be ideal putting him straight back in the team after such a long absence anyway!
Actually thought you may have been discounting the season we finished second or when we won the CL. They were not so much 'wasted' although, ultimately, they were because we didn't finish top of the pile.
He wont be. If there's anything learnt from Steven Gerrard's year of hell it's that Liverpool no longer rush people back from injury
It is impossible for anyone other than the medics who see Lucas regularly to make a judgement on this, if they think hes ready, hes ready, sooner the better
It's highly unlikely we'll win all three of them, if I'm being pragmatic. However, we may well have to
I agree, that could turn out to be key - after all the mantra is the same - you have to make sure you take points off of those around you. Helps if you beat the midtablers and promoted teams too, natch...
Ideally 2 out of 3 preferably arsenal & Chelsea, they've all to play each other & spurs so 6 points out of 9 would be good, We'll see if arsenal are going to make imploding an annual occurrence. Still got a gut. Feeling there's something up at Chelsea. Actually think Newcastle are biggest threat, they appear to have good team spirit and an on fire striker.
Most important thing is to not give them the 3 points otherwise it is a 6 point gap between losing and winning. Drawing may be OK but we would have to better their results in the other games. Only saving grace there is that they have to play the top 3 at some point. These are massive games...are you quaking in your pants?
I haven't lived in Newcastle long enough, probably Welsh or a military terminology. Maybe even American.
He's got an ACL injury. If he did get better, I'd wait until even October. ACL injuries are psychologically and physiologically catastrophic. Many players never recover, many never become the players they once were. In the knee there are 3 major ligaments, the anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, and the meniscus. The anterior ligament is in the middle and appears to connect the knee vertically. This is torn or snapped with a rapid twisting motion. It is extremely difficult to operate on as it is protected in the middle of the knee. That is also why it takes a long time to recover. This is what Lucas has, and rushing it would destroy his career. Vidic tore his PCL, MCL, and the ACL. The ACL is the worst, but coupled with the other two, he'll never play at the same level again. Lucas still has a chance. When the club physios say he is fit, I would give him another month or two of strength and endurance training. One ACL injury can be recovered from, but another would probably ruin his career.
Like mentioned above it would be completely stupid to rush him back (even though we are missing him)and if it takes a bit longer then they think so be it Hopefully he comes back as the same player
