Report: Newcastle United to turn to FC Twente striker Luc Castaignos in January

Newcastle United will apparently turn to FC Twente's Luc Castaignos in their search for a striker this January.

The Magpies missed out on Loic Remy, Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Alexandre Lacazette during the course of the summer and have now moved on to other targets.

A reliable frontman remains a priority for Alan Pardew's Premier League strugglers, who have not won a top-flight game this season, with Emmanuel Riviere yet to find his feet in England and Papiss Cisse poised to miss some of the campaign while competing in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Newcastle Chronicle claims that Dutch Under-21 international Castaignos, who has scored five goals this season and came close to joining Swansea City in June, is one of several strikers being watched by Newcastle scouts.

Riviere has failed to score in seven Premier League appearances since joining from Monaco for £5m.

A "reliable frontman". What does this mean? Someone who will guarantee a regular flow of goals? If so they need to be either paying top dollar, or looking at someone who knows the league. That is the only things that comes close to reliable. Throwing enough **** at the wall and hoping something sticks never really works out as far as strikers go. They can buy as many 5m-10m strikers as they like.

It will amaze me if anyone will sign for us in Jan after all the drama that has gone down so far this season.

One day all of these 'gambles' are going to fall flat in Ashley's face and he is going to lose a fortune. I suspect this season will be just that. If being relegated means that Ashley sells up and takes Pardew and the spineless pricks that currently play for us with him then long term that is what the club needs.

Trouble is he wont sell up if we go down because he will want to get the best price for the club and he can only do that when we are in the Premier League. Strangely that's probably what would get him to really invest on the playing side so we go straight back up. However believe he will do that in January if we are still in relegation trouble. As Seabass says the gamble then is if anyone who is not just after a big final payday would join us.
