I know someone has mentioned his name in a separate topic on avb, however despite the ridiculous betting that is going on in that one  there seems to be some truth to the story.
There have been a few stories in the paper today:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ider-Louis-van-Gaal-as-sporting-director.html

Also, more interestingly talkshite have a story on the matter:
    http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...l-would-be-great-choice-liverpool-boss-172733
and a short time ago spoke to a Dutch correspondent who said he is very interested in working in England and ready for a job. He is fond of developing young players and working with players as a whole making a great team, however he may be more fond of the managers job, but should fsg ask for a director role he would be happy to take it also and appoint a manager he is happy to work with.

He has a reputation of being very difficult to work with. If you thought Rafa was a control freak then you haven't Van Gaal (from stories I have read!).

If we do choose Van Gaal, then I can understand why FSG would like to bring in a manager like Martinez. Managers like Rafa or AVB have ego's and I would expect there to be a clash.

If he's a control freak, then the DoF role (or sporting director assuming the job's being split) will be good for us and him. He'll have clear boundaries as to what his job is, just like the manager will do.

Either Van Gaal or Txiki would have been great choices for me, so I'll be happy with either. Looks like Van Gaal is leading the race at the moment.

Not sure what kind of manager he wants though, but I'd guess similar to what FSG are after. They'll be wanting directors who share their vision, young, ambitious, attractive football, etc. AVB would be a fine choice, but I'd support Martinez.

Would he be happy with just that role? I do think he would attract a lot of players though, maybe fsg have already consulted with him about managers, who knows?

It gives me a bit more confidence in the owners if he comes in, in terms of ambition.
