He's liable to be injured half the season and blows hot and cold throughout butif his wages aren't extortionate ... Put it like this, 0-0 at home to West Brom with 20 minutes to go and you have a choice of bringing on Whickham, Ji or Saha to try and nick the winner. Who do you go for?
So are we saying we no longer go for the best just whoever we can get on the cheap who may be better than what we have?
The prospect of a Saha type signing indicates we have very little cash, also very little prospect of actually bringing in any striker who is any good!
I think this is a typical over-reaction. We need 3, and bringing in an experienced striker, with a 1-in-3 goal record (including Spurs last season), for nowt, is being derided? ****ing hell lads, he will be 'in addition to'.
Only being honest, I feel depressed that I read who the likes of Reading are going for and we may, just may get a 33 year old that nobody else wants, forgive me for not getting excited.
I'm not telling you to get excited mate, but it's the same old 'we're doomed' ****. If we only sign Saha, i'll join in, but as we have 2 months to the season start, I think it's a wee bit premature to be hitting the panic button, yeah?
We need 4 good strikers, plus the kids (Whickham and Ji) coming through. We currently have two, Campbell and Sessegnon. Saha would bring experience and class to the squad, that and the main striker we need will do me fine. I still think we are sniffing around Pogrebnyak, his agent says that they are talking to several prem clubs, he would fit the bill and suit me more than the overrated and expensive Fletcher!!
MON and the club have one hell of a task on their hands. If Saha is one of the players we are looking at we are in for a tough ride next season. This is one scared Sunderland fan at the moment - This is a massive turning point for us. Just hope it turns out for the good.
I think Saha is decent, but there are surely better, more long term options available for similar price. I mean after 1 season you'll be back to square one looking for his replacement, no matter how he does.
Rodellega Mandzukic Pogrebnyak All free all three id actually rather we went for. All younger and with sell on value also if it didn't work out
I was thinking of the bottom 2, although just remembered Pogrebnyak is reading bound, so you should definitely have been in there on that. Mandzuckic is quality, also Dzagoev from Russia won't break the £10million mark.
Saha's still a good player, if he's used in the right system. He combined brilliantly with Adebayor at WHL when we mauled your favourite neighbours 5-0, though I understand your concerns about signing him. Used in the lone strikers role, he's not up to much. Played alongside a hard working forward who can put himself about a bit and provide some decent service, he can be very dangerous. Good pace, good movement, superb touch and excellent finishing. He doesn't suit our system, but I could understand how O'Neill might want to match him up with Wickham. Youth and experience. Height and strength with pace and movement. If you can keep them both fit, then I think they'd suit the style that your manager has adopted at most of his clubs.
I'm not saying we are doomed and not hitting any panic button, I am saying I expect better, an opinion and no more, BTW, an honest one.
Why are some of you panicking? The transfer window is not even open yet. Besides, Saha is a decent player and could fire you into the top 10 (which has to be your aim) so long as you keep him fit somehow!
