Spotted this absloute cracker on McMurdo's Blog:

Recently I spoke to Richard Gough and one of the things we discussed was how comments are often misconstrued in the media. Knowing that many bluenoses were upset with a comment attributed to the 9IAR captain, I spoke to Goughie and gave him the opportunity to put the record straight. Here is his response:

“I have been aware for a while that some Rangers fans are upset with a comment attributed to me in an article a couple of years ago where I stated that the club I gave blood, sweat and tears for is dead. Let me say that I don’t have a perfect recollection of my comments at this time but I do know what I was trying to convey and want to make that abundantly clear now. My comments were in the context of grief at what had happened to the club I captained. Recently I said that I wish I had done more to speak up at that time. My meaning was certainly not that the club which plays at Ibrox now and is named Rangers FC is a totally different and new entity from the club I played for. I simply meant that the era which I was so proud to be a part of was over and that what lay ahead was uncertain and unknown. Let’s be honest – they were dark times and many of us didn’t know if there would be a Rangers during the worst of those days. In hindsight I might have picked my words more carefully, although Rangers supporters I know personally totally understand what I was trying to say when I have explained it to them. I appreciate the chance to clarify this and am happy to apologise if anyone was offended by my comments. I would also like to point out that my involvement with Dave King in Ibrox1972Ltd should help convince people that I very much believe the club we all love is the one it was my honour to represent as a player and captain.

    To coin a phrase:

    Rangers – Now, Then, Forever
    .”
    Richard Gough

I was aware that the above was what the big man meant but it wasn’t my place to speak for him. Now that he has cleared the matter up I hope anybody who held these comments against Gough will accept his explanation. It’s no secret that I do not agree with the King-Gough fund but I am in no doubt that Richard Gough has Rangers’ best interests at heart and I think he believes that, although the Rangers he played for was a different team, era and maybe culture – it is the same Rangers in essence today. As Goughie said, Rangers Now, Then and Forever.
And so say all of us.

    Ahem

I hate to put a fly in the ointment but here's what Richard actually said at the time according to the Sun:

Richard Gough wants the Rangers culprits jailed for life.

Yesterday’s news that HMRC would reject Charles Green’s CVA proposal was followed by a chilling statement warning that ‘liquidation provides the best opportunity to protect taxpayers, by allowing the potential investigation and pursuit of possible claims against those responsible for the company’s financial affairs in recent years.’ That statement would have sent alarm bells running for all former directors, as well as former chairmen Craig Whyte, John McClelland and David Murray. Sympathy is thin on the ground amongst the Rangers support for those who ‘chased the dream’ with Gough blunt and to the point with his anger.

“Lock them up and throw the key away,” he told The Sun. “The club I gave blood, sweat and tears for is dead. Whose fault is it? I don’t care.

“All I care about is the people who brought Rangers to their knees are punished. Tax evasion is a crime, everyone knows that. If you don’t pay your taxes you go to jail.

“It’s a white-collar crime that must have consequences so if HMRC are really serious about liquidation giving them the best chance to investigate why Rangers failed, I want to see it done properly.

“I want to see the people who are responsible for running Rangers into the ground brought to book. I don’t know if it’s Craig Whyte or whoever but I do know the culprit — or culprits — should be locked up.”

Gough added: “I’m still numb by the news 140 years of history has been wiped out in one fell swoop. It’s like a death in the family you know has been coming for a while.

“When it happens it still knocks you for six. It’s difficult to know what to make of it all. Too big to fail, that’s what I always thought. Or maybe it was more to do with not believing a club could be so badly mismanaged.
“This whole sorry episode has been one rat’s nest of corruption. So much of it stinks. It would take someone a long time to start piecing together all the rotten bits of this jigsaw but time might be something HMRC have if they are so determined to clamp down on tax evasion in football. “When that happens I hope they show no mercy to the people who have destroyed Rangers. It’s the last thing the players deserve, the last thing boss Ally McCoist needs.

“Will anyone at Rangers go home tonight confident their wages are going to drop into the bank at the end of the month? Fat chance. “There’s always protection for the rich, no matter how badly they mess up. Well this time it can’t happen. “There’s a lot of people in Scottish football having a party right now. I’m not disagreeing about Rangers being punished. I just don’t understand why so many people are glorying in this. It’s not just the graveyard of Rangers these people are dancing on there’s a real danger it could be Scottish football that dies a slow death because of this.

"One day Rangers will be back. They will wear light blue and play at Ibrox Stadium. But it won’t be the same club I played for. Instead Rangers have died"

I don't have a bald-face so I realised he was not talking about me, likewise i'm no ***** so one assumes he meant Richard Gough and the crime which must never be mentioned.
