The Astronauts were about as marketable as, umm, custard flavoured pork sausages. Much like most of the music I listen to. Yet the man wrote excellent lyrics and the band played somewhere in the middle of Anarcho Punk, Pyschedelic and Folk.
Also I should point out that Welwyn Garden City is a bit of a cultural vacuum so Mark Astronaut was playing gigs in the bohemian melting-pot that is Hitchin more than anywhere else. And attending them. A local fixture.
