I know catts has many fans disgruntled about the captaincy, and many shouted for O'Shea, in hindsight it should have been Brown..but he finally says something about it.. LEE CATTERMOLE admits talk of losing the captainâs armband affected his self-belief during the early exchanges of the campaign. But the midfielder insists he is beginning to get back into the groove after reclaiming a place in the Sunderland starting line-up following his dip in form. Speculation was rife during the summer that John OâShea would succeed Cattermole as Black Cats skipper after arriving in a £5million deal from Manchester United. Although OâShea has captained Sunderland in Cattermoleâs absence, boss Steve Bruce has kept faith with the influential 23-year-old. Being Black Cats skipper has not made Cattermole immune from the chop though, with the ex-Middlesbrough man left out for two games before returning against Manchester United and Fulham. Cattermole told the Echo: âJohn came in during the summer and straight away, all the headlines were âLee loses the captaincyâ. âMaybe that put a bit of doubt in my mind. âThe gaffer made it clear to me that that wasnât going to be the case. But itâs stuff that adds up and you start asking questions of yourself http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...sunderland_skipper_talk_affected_me_1_3994000
I think Cattermole was excellent on Saturday - he is a good player but needs some creativity next to him - Colback is not it! (I like Colback but think he is going the way Henderson did) - I was happy to see Catts playing with vigour again on Saturday - I have vociferously supported him all the time he's been here and have argued about him again and again (me saying he is a good player and other slating him) - If he finds his full form again we will see a very good midfielder.
Cattermole had his best game for yonks on Saturday, but he stilll had his one moment of madness which he must cut out...
Agreed - but did you notice how Danny Murphy had 5 or 6 of those same moments and never got spoken to - or that the ref went to Book Dixon Etuhu for a foul worse thazn Cattermole's but realised he'd booked him so changed his mind - Wonder if he'd have done the same if it was Cattermole!
Once he gets booked, he gives very little to the team IMO (No goals/no creativity/poor passing/no pace/no good in the air etc etc) Just my opinion of course.
