Hi guys. After months of reading the SAFC threads, I thought the decent thing to do was join in. My first thread concerns our next manager and, before you call for my nuts to be removed, I hope it is a very, very long way off. As I see it, clubs are relatively successful in one of three categories: Option 1 - by buying success Option 2 - by having a long-term manager Option 3 - by promoting from within Option 1 - I'm happy with ES at present and, unless some Asian, East European or Arab billionaire buys the club, this is not an option. Option 2 - I hope this is the one for the foreseeable future with GP at the helm. Fergie and Arsene Wenger are probably the best examples. Unfortunately, any success puts him in the spotlight and richer clubs (or even countries) will be keeping a close eye on him and could make him an offer he can't refuse. Option 3 - I had in mind the time Liverpool promoted from within starting with Bill Shankley, Bob Paisley and others who's names I can't remember. I know it's usual for a departing manager to keep his backroom staff if he can. If GP has the success we hope he has, do you think it would be a good idea to offer the post to someone who is steeped in Poyet' s methods so that continuity prevails? What are others' views?
Good post mate but what took you so long? Anyway, the way I like to see it is this, Option 2. If Gus IS successful with us, why would he need to leave? if the results come and we do start to finish in the top half and maybe push for Europe, the SOL would no doubt be packed out, he would no doubt hold 'hero status' in Sunderland. It's also the Owners ambition to provide all of this so I'm guessing he will be financing it all. Why would Gus want to leave all that behind?
Welcome fella. Option 4, find the next available manager who shares a similar philosophy to Gus so there's no need for wholesale changes. We've now installed this philosophy on every level at the club and is now well and truly the blue print for years to come. Swansea and Southampton have both recruited in this way which has allowed the clubs to continue to develop in the right direction as suppose to bringing in managers with completely different philosophies, writing off a few seasons and needing 4 or five windows in order to form 'their team'. I'm writing this amusing Gus eventually leaves having out grown us which is likely sooner or later, probably later.
Welcome aboard mate, agree with this ^ our club gets under your skin, when Gus brings success, why would he want to go anywhere, all the infastrucure is here, the capacity can be taken into the 60,000 bracket in a closed season, he is already at a massive club. Reckon he will be our fergie/wenger here for a long time building up all the time
We've never lost a manager o a 'bigger' club have we? Admittedly this may be because they have all been ****.
Thanks for the warm welcome. If the time ever comes, let's hope Gus will say no to Barca, Real Madrid or Uruguay!
Welcome to the best forum in the world mate. Seriously, that's one target-rich name pal. You got some valid points but at this point in time, just enjoy the journey. As a mackem, you know you can't get too far ahead of yourself, so just enjoy the here and now. Keep posting mate.
Great first post and welcome. I just started to post after being on the site for three years. Really enjoyed just reading the posts to be honest. With being 6,000 miles away it makes you feel closer to the action. So I have just been putting a few things out there. I hope with Gus he stays for the long haul. I feel probably we have stumbled upon our best manager for 40 years. Tactically he's brilliant. I remember one of his first games against City at home. They brought on Navras at half time. That boy could fly. Bardo hadn't been back long and in the fist half Johnno was playing in front of him. Gus could see what was happening so he brought Colback over and put him in front of Bardo to effectively lessen the threat. I think I was quite taken aback by a Sunderland manager thinking about the game....with Bruce, O'Neil and others they would have waited after City had put three in before realising what was going on. Last week against the mags he got it spot on....wish the score would have been 6 - 0 instead of three....in Gus we trust
Looking to the future.. Well here is one thing that needs sorting. GUS POYET hopes the managerial upheaval at Swansea City this week will not scupper Sunderland’s chances of signing Ki Sung-Yueng on a permanent deal. Midfielder Ki was out-of-favour under sacked Swansea boss Michael Laudrup last summer, with the Welsh club happy to let the high-earning South Korean international join Sunderland on a season-long loan deal. Even after Ki proved his worth at Sunderland with a series of impressive displays, Laudrup opted not to recall the 24-year-old during the January transfer window. But with Laudrup relieved of his duties earlier this week, there have been fears raised among Sunderland supporters that the next Swansea boss will take a different view on Ki. Poyet hopes that doesn’t prove to be the case, with Sunderland still in a strong position to land Ki permanently, given he has entered the final 18 months of his contract. “I think the important thing is how happy Ki feels when he plays for us,” said Poyet. “How much he is enjoying his football here? “Being realistic, he is still under contract to Swansea. “Now Swansea have changed their manager and who knows whether whoever comes in will want Ki or not want him. “We will have to manage that situation. “But if you ask me if he is a player I would like to have here, yes I would.” Providing Sunderland avoid relegation, the Black Cats will still be odds-on to sign Ki. The former Celtic man was evasive over whether he expects to remain at the Stadium of Light next season when interviewed this week. “I don’t know what will happen in the future but at the minute I am very happy playing for this club and with these boys,” he said. But Ki has enjoyed his spell on Wearside and it is thought he would be happy to make his move permanent. Swansea are conscious of recouping some of their investment in Ki too after splashing out £6million in 2012 to take the Korean to the Liberty Stadium. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...rland-s-poyet-hopeful-on-signing-ki-1-6427091
