Matt Smith’s Cup exploits are in his own thread but elswhere that man Mitroglou keeps on going as he scores Olympaikos’ late third in their 3-0 win at OFI Crete on Saturday, to remain top of their Super League

And in Sky Bet League One Stephen Arthurworrey helped Yeovil Town to a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Coventry City at Huish Park. Glovers goalkeeper Jed Steer saved a second-half penalty from Gary Maadine.

Yeovil have moved off the bottom of the table!

Less than two weeks into his loan, Cameron has suffered ankle ligament damage and is expected to be out for 6 weeks. What rotten luck for the lad, just when he needed a run of games.

Josh Passley has gone out on loan to Portsmouth -

"Pompey have signed defender Josh Passley on a one-month youth loan from Fulham. The 20-year-old can play at right-back or in the centre and will wear the number 18 shirt during his time at Fratton Park.

Blues boss Andy Awford said: “He’s an athletic and very lively player who will improve our squad. The coaching staff and I have been to watch Josh on a few occasions this season and we liked what we saw. He’s already played at this level before and we’re grateful to Fulham – and Kit Symons in particular – for letting us borrow him.”

Passley has progressed through the ranks at Craven Cottage and appeared in two FA Cup fixtures for the Londoners."

And Stephen Arthurworrey has had his loan extended till the end of the season.

"The Club can confirm that centre-back Stephen Arthurworrey has had his loan spell at Sky Bet League One outfit Yeovil Town extended until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has made 16 appearances to date for the Glovers, including their valiant defeat by Manchester United in the FA Cup."

Amidst the brooha of yesterday’s loan deals I’d forgotton about the other lads. Well except for Matt Smith who has his own thread. Maybe we should start one for Mitroglou who is now up there with Matty on goals scored -

Kostas Mitroglou netted his 14th goal of the campaign as Olympiakos won 2-0 away to nine-man Veroia.

The hosts were up against it from the 12th minute when Sotirios Balafas was shown a straight red card, but Olympiakos didn’t make the breakthrough until Mitroglou scored on 71 minutes. Veroia’s Roberto Battion was then shown a second yellow card five minutes later, and Mathieu Dossevi grabbed a second for the Super League leaders late on

On Saturday Stephen Arthurworrey played 90 minutes as Yeovil Town slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Peterborough United. Marcus Maddison’s effort just before the half hour mark proved to be the difference between the sides, as the Glovers returned to the bottom of League One.

In League Two, Josh Passley marked his Portsmouth debut with a clean sheet as they secured an impressive goalless draw at promotion-chasing Wycombe Wanderers. The youngster played on the right of midfield in a 3-5-2 formation as Pompey proved more than a match for their opponents at Adams Park. The result leaves them sitting 18th in the table.

In the Vanarama Conference South, Marek Rodák was in goal for Farnborough as they lost 2-0 away to Sutton United. Bedsente Gomis gave his side the lead 10 minutes after half-time, before Jamie White made sure of the victory in the closing stages.”

No goals today for the big two -

Stephen Arthurworrey played 90 minutes on Saturday as Yeovil Town moved off the bottom of the Sky Bet League One table with a 2-1 victory over Crawley Town at Huish Park. The visitors went in front on 27 minutes through Izale McLeod’s header, but Gozie Ugwu restored parity when he nodded in on 66 for his third goal in five games. And the winner arrived just six minutes later when Ajay Leitch-Smith pounced to fire home and earn his side a crucial three points which saw them leapfrog their opponents in the table.

Elsewhere in the division, Matt Smith played 73 minutes of Bristol City’s goalless draw at Milton Keynes Dons before being replaced by Aaron Wilbraham. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Joe Bryan went close for the Robins, but the home side could have won it late on through Dele Alli. The result keeps City at the top of the standings.

In League Two, Josh Passley played the entirety of Portsmouth’s 1-0 win over Hartlepool United at Fratton Park. Matt Tubbs’ header on the hour mark proved the difference between the two sides, and helped Pompey to a first win in 10 matches as they moved up to 16th in the table.

In the Vanarama Conference South, Marek Rodák and Farnborough slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Havant & Waterlooville. There was nothing the young goalkeeper could do about the winner on 42 minutes as Ben Swallow’s low shot deflected off Matt Jones to wrong-foot Rodák and fly into the back of the net. Jamie Hand was sent off in the 82nd minute for a second bookable offence for 20th-place Farnborough.

In the 2. Bundesliga, Thomas Eisfeld came on as a 70th-minute substitute in VfL Bochum’s 2-1 defeat at Union Berlin. Selim Guenduez had put the visitors in front shortly after the half-hour mark, but Berlin drew level through Martin Kobylanski’s effort five minutes into the second period. Damir Kreilach then won it for the hosts late on, as Bochum slipped to 12th in the standings.

In Greece, Kostas Mitroglou played 90 minutes but couldn’t help Olympiakos to three points as they were held to a goalless draw at PAOK. They still sit top of the Super League, but Panathinaikos closed the gap to six points with their win over Panaitolikos."

So far as I’m aware Chris David wasn’t in the FC Twente squad when they lost 3-1 to Excelsior on Saturday. Wonder why we never hear anything about Martin Stekelenburg ? He is still on loan isn’t he?[/I]

    .
    Others playing last night were:

In League One, Stephen Arthurworrey’s Yeovil Town were defeated 1-0 at Crewe Alexandra. That sticks Yeovil in 22nd place.

In League Two, Josh Passley helped Portsmouth to a 0-0 draw away to Dagenham & Redbridge. And he nearly got a late winner but his deflected shot was saved by the keeper. However, Pompey have now kept a clean sheet in each of the three games that Josh has played for them, and they stay in 16th position in the table.

Matt Smith scored in his own thread. Here's how the rest of the lads got on at the weekend -

"Yeovil Town slipped back to last place following their 3-0 defeat away to Doncaster Rovers. Stephen Arthurworrey played the full 90 minutes against Rovers, who took the lead on 22 minutes through Nathan Tyson. Second half goals from Dean Furman and Kyle Bennett cemented victory and sent Yeovil back to 24th spot after Leyton Orient won their match with Chesterfield.

In League Two, Josh Passley played the first 45 minutes of Portsmouth’s 1-0 win over Exeter City at Fratton Park. The full-back went close to opening the scoring midway through the first half, but saw his curling strike hit the crossbar. Jed Wallace then missed a penalty for the hosts after the restart, but made amends with the winner in the 90th minute to move Pompey seven points clear of the relegation zone.

In Germany, Thomas Eisfeld played 79 minutes of VfL Bochum’s 3-2 home victory against Eintracht Braunschweig. The visitors took an early lead through Mirko Boland, but Bochum responded with Simon Terrode’s brace and a Marco Terrazzino strike, before Benjamin Kessel’s goal ensured a nervy finale. But Bochum held on to claim the three points and remain 12th in the 2. Bundesliga. "

The Club have confirmed that Tom Richards has joined Vanarama Conference Premier outfit Aldershot Town on a one-month youth loan deal.

please log in to view this image

"The Shots currently sit 18th in the Conference Premier and are away to Alfreton Town on Saturday afternoon.

Richards has already had a taste of their home stadium, the Recreation Ground, after he came on in Thursday's 4-3 Premier League International Cup Quarter-Final triumph over Chelsea. It will be his second spell out on loan, after the 20-year-old made 10 appearances for AFC Wimbledon last year."

A busy, if quiet-ish, weekend for the lads out on loan -

George Williams was a 69th-minute substitute as Milton Keynes Dons took on Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One on Saturday. By the time he entered the game, the Dons' 3-0 victory had already been secured. Williams almost increased his side's lead. Just 11 minutes after coming on he pounced on a poor clearance but saw his shot pushed away. Then his right-footed effort from the middle of the box was once again saved in injury time.

In the same division, Matt Smith played 63 minutes for Bristol City but he couldn’t produce a goal in keeping with his recent form to help the Robins avoid a 3-2 away defeat to Colchester United. Whilst the defeat helped Colchester move out of the relegation zone, the lack of points cut City’s lead at the top of League One to just two points. The Robins are on 64 points but with a game in hand on MK Dons.

Also in League One, Stephen Arthurworrey played the whole game as Yeovil Town salvaged a late 2-2 draw at home to Gillingham. The result leaves the Glovers bottom of the table.

In Germany, Thomas Eisfeld played an influential role in VfL Bochum’s oalless draw away to Karlsruher SC. With Bochum sitting in 12th place and Karlsruher in second position, the point away from home was vital for Eisfeld’s team. “I think we deserved to win more than KSC,” Eisfeld said after the game. “But in the end we will take a draw away.”

Back in England and in League Two Josh Passley played the full 90 minutes in an eight-goal thriller as Portsmouth won 6-2 away against Cambridge United. Solid in defence, he also almost added to the goal tally as his ball into the box took a massive deflection, forcing the Cambridge keeper to hack it out.

In the Vanarama Conference South League, Farnborough were boosted by the return of Marek Rodák in their 2-1 victory over Eastbourne Borough. A few quick reactions and good saves from the Slovakian keeper kept Farnborough ahead for their first league win of 2015. Only a booking in injury time for dissent marred a great day for the shot-stopper.

In the Netherlands on Sunday, Chris David was a 69th-minute substitute as FC Twente lost 2-1 at home to Vitesse.

Finally in Greece, Kostas Mitroglou played the full 90 minutes as table-topping Olympiakos lost 2-1 away to second-placed Panathinaikos as the hosts closed the gap to three points.”

Josh has extended his loan for a further month.

So far he has played six games for them at right wing-back. In that time Pompey have won four and drawn two.

Since we haven't heard about him since he went on loan, thought I'd just mention that Maarten Stekelenburg is on the bench for Monaco at the Emirates tonight.

Busy weekend again for the lads out on loan -

Stephen Arthurworrey played the full 90 minutes of Yeovil Town’s 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe United in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon. Joel Grant put the Glovers ahead just before the half hour mark, but Hakeeb Adelakun ensured the spoils were shared with his equaliser in the second half. The result leaves Yeovil at the bottom of the table, six points from safety.

Elsewhere in the division, George Williams entered the action in the 64th minute but couldn’t help MK Dons salvage a comeback at Coventry City, as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat. Coventry were two goals up at half-time courtesy of early efforts from Chris Stokes and Dominic Samuel. Daniel Powell reduced the deficit in the second half but Dons were unable to find a second goal, and they’re now eight points behind league leaders Bristol City, for whom Matt Smith was an unused substitute in their 1-0 win over Rochdale. Smith has now returned to Fulham and is eligible to feature in Tuesday’s match against Watford.

In League Two, Josh Passley played 75 minutes as Portsmouth were held to a goalless draw by Oxford United at Fratton Park. The home side were the better team but found United goalkeeper Ryan Clarke in good form, with the point gained moving Pompey up to 12th in the standings.

Tom Richards made his debut for Aldershot Town as they drew 1-1 with Dartford, with the wideman coming on for the final few minutes of the game. Elliott Bradbrook had given the Darts a half-time lead, but Tristan Plummer restored parity after the break.

Marek Rodák was in goal as Farnborough lost 2-1 at Gosport Borough in the Conference South. The visitors took the lead on 30 minutes when Dan Bennett netted, but Gosport clinched the win through Dan Wooden and Justin Bennett goals.

In the Dutch Eredivisie, Chris David came on for the final quarter of an hour of FC Twente’s 1-1 draw at home to NAC Breda. Luc Castaignos’ fifth minute strike looked to have secured victory for the hosts, but Erik Falkenburg equalised with two minutes remaining. The result leaves Twente sitting eighth in the standings.

On Friday, Thomas Eisfeld had an eventful game as he claimed an assist, scored, and was sent off in VfL Bochum’s 3-3 home draw against FSV Frankfurt.

The home team took the lead after quarter of an hour when Marco Terrazzino volleyed in from Eisfeld’s cross, before the on-loan Fulham midfielder doubled the advantage when he found the corner of the net on 61 minutes. Zlatko Dedič pulled one back for Frankfurt on 79 minutes, but Danny Latza restored the two-goal cushion moments later. But Eisfeld was then sent off on 83 minutes for fouling Vincenzo Grifo in the area, with Edmond Kapllani dispatching the subsequent penalty, before the same man popped up again in stoppage time to earn Frankfurt an unlikely point.”

Still don't understand why the Club never mention Stekelenburg who, after their exploits at the Emirates, was again on the bench for Monaco at the weekend.

Not a brilliant Tuesday for the lads out on loan:

George Williams was forced off after just 36 minutes of MK Dons’ 2-1 home defeat by Chesterfield yesterday.

Fellow loanee Lewis Baker – who is on Chelsea’s books – put Dons in front after 28 minutes with a curling shot, but Williams then required treatment following a 50-50 challenge with Tendayi Darikwa, before being replaced moments later by Carl Baker. Gary Roberts hauled the Spireites level on 66 minutes, with MK reduced to 10 men quarter of an hour later when Dean Lewington was shown a second yellow card. And Chesterfield made the most of their man advantage when Caolan Lavery turned home Darikwa’s cross in the 90th minute.

The result saw MK Dons slip out of the automatic promotion places in Sky Bet League One following Preston North End’s draw with Doncaster Rovers.

In the division below, Josh Passley played just under an hour of Portsmouth’s 1-0 away loss at Northampton Town. Moments after the wing-back had gone close to opening the scoring in the 23rd minute, the Cobblers took the lead through Ricky Holmes. Ben Chorley was also sent off in stoppage time to cap a disappointing night for Pompey, who dropped to 13th in the standings.

In the Vanarama Conference, Tom Richards came on in the 72nd minute of Aldershot Town’s 3-1 win against Dover Athletic at the Recreation Ground. Jim Stevenson’s brace had already put Shots two goals up by the time Richards entered the action, with Sean Francis then pulling one back for the visitors before Andre cCollin made the points safe with five minutes to go. The win saw Aldershot move up to 16th in the table.”

[Separately: Injuries meant that the Yeovil acting manager, Terry Skiverton, had to shuffle his starting line-up for last night’s match against Walsall and because of the rule that allows only a maximum of 5 loanees to play, Stephen Arthurworrey was the one to lose out.]

Not at sure why the question was raised but at today’s press conference Kit was asked about the position regarding Kostas Mitroglou. His response was, ”no decision about him has been made” - and then went on to emphasise that Fulham were a Premier League club when he arrived.

So … He’s not interested in coming back!! .... Or, we can't afford his wages!!??

Nice little write-up for Magnus by his new club:

“Farnborough Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Magnus Norman on loan from Fulham until the end of the season.

Magnus, who turned 18 in January, joins from the Sky Bet Championship Club until the end of the season. Other loan goalkeeper Marek Rodák returns to Craven Cottage. We thank Marek for his time with the Club.

On joining, Magnus exclusively told www.farnboroughfc.co.uk : “I’m very happy to be signing, I think it’s gonna be a great experience for me.” He added: “My goal is to help keep Farnborough in the Conference South for this season, it will be my first senior games so I hope to gain a lot of experience!”

Magnus made 12 appearances in all competitions for Fulham’s Under-18s in the 2013/14 season. On October 1st 2014, Magnus signed his first professional contract, tying him to the Club until 30th June 2016.”

Better weekend all round for the lads out on loan:

Stephen Arthurworrey played the full 90 minutes as Yeovil Town claimed a crucial 2-1 victory at home to Oldham Athletic on Saturday afternoon.

After Adam Morgan had seen a goal disallowed for the hosts, Arthurworrey thrice threatened to open the scoring when he got on the end of set-pieces, but it was the visitors who took the lead when Carl Winchester netted a minute before half-time.
But Joel Grant equalised 10 minutes after the restart, and with Oldham down to 10 men following Brian Wilson’s second yellow card, James Hayter netted in the second minute of stoppage time to move Town to within three points of safety in Sky Bet League One.

After the game, Arthurworrey tweeted: “Great win today....I should of scored a hat-trick in the first half, but we closed the gap.”

In League Two, Josh Passley featured for 71 minutes of Portsmouth’s 1-1 draw at 10-man Accrington Stanley. Josh Windass put Stanley in front early on with a 25-yard free-kick, but Pompey hit back within a matter of minutes when Ryan Taylor headed in. Antony Barry was then shown a straight red card not long into the second period, but Portsmouth were unable to snatch a winning goal as they dropped down to 14th in the standings.

In the Vanarama Conference South, Magnus Norman helped Farnborough to a 1-1 draw at home to Staines Town on his debut for the club. Boro were awarded a penalty on 37 minutes when visiting goalkeeper Jack Turner wiped out Louie Theophanous in the area, with Harry Grant tucking home the resultant spot-kick.

Norman had been equal to everything thrown at him throughout the game, but after he pulled off a fine save with 10 minutes remaining, Staines equalised from the subsequent corner when former Birmingham City defender Darren Purse headed in on what was his debut also. But Norman can be pleased with his performance nonetheless, and was duly named Man of the Match for his efforts following a vote by the club’s supporters.”

Not many out and about at the weekend it would appear, and not so good for the ‘home’ lads:

“In the Vanarama Conference South, Magnus Norman was in goal as Farnborough fell to a 2-0 defeat at Hayes and Yeading on Saturday.

Norman produced a good save after just 10 minutes to prevent his side going one down but was beaten on 27 minutes. The young goalkeeper had initially punched a free-kick away but Hayes & Yeading scored from the second phase of play through Elliot Benyon. Norman made a great save minutes later to deny Benyon a second, tipping his volley round the post. But the home side soon made it two and it was Benyon again who was put through before rounding Norman to slot home.

Tom Richards came on as a 65th-minute substitute for Aldershot Town as he replaced the injured Matt Saunders but he was unable to prevent the Shots falling to a 2-1 defeat at home to Southport in the Conference. The away side went two up inside 25 minutes but despite pulling one back in the second half, Town couldn’t get back on level terms to earn a point.

Meanwhile in Germany, Thomas Eisfeld played the full 90 minutes as VfL Bochum thrashed Heidenheim 4-1 on Friday. Eisfeld played just behind the striker and assisted Michael Gregoritsch for the fourth goal after an excellent long-range pass.”

Strong rumours on Twitter that Fernando Amorebieta will join Middlesbrough on loan til the end of the season. Not sure what to make of this, he's most likely going to be sold in the summer so maybe some regular game time in a decent team might drive his price up a bit or he'll join 'Boro permanently in the summer. He's been decent at times and dreadful others so I won't be too bothered if this goes through or not.
