I'm guessing nobody was there from this site so there isn't going to be a report. The best I can do is say I listened to this one on the radio and by the sound of it Argyle were well worth their win. Carey once more and he is turning out to be a real asset. Jervis also on the score sheet and the new boys are certainly knocking them in. Reid off early with an injury which was not such good news. As said above I listened to this one and I don't normally like to. Superstition is the reason as they never seem to do well when I do. The Missus sorted that by coming in, switching the radio on in the kitchen and me not being able to not listen. Great couple of points and never much in doubt.
We are only third so we can do better than that.....besides, I paid a wedge out for a couple of season tickets so would like a bit more out of them first before we wrap everything up. I've been reading other sites and it seems we were a bit out of sorts in the first half again but once more took a lead. Changed things about again in the second and we looked much better. I'm not used to this changing tactics in a game. However, concensus is we were well worth the points even if the opinions are slightly green tinted.
Spent the day at Leeds Castle.....yes that is in kent....so chuffed to get home and find out we had won again away from home.....6pts and no goals given away as yet on the road.....doesn't get better than that.
I know where Leeds Castle is I've passed it loads of times on my way to the coast up there. The team will be buggered if they ever have to play on a pitch then.
He was Anchorman in the studio today. Only know that because I heard his voice summarising the football during the commentary from time to time. Think he doesn't do the away games now only home ones which I go to and never hear him. He isn't as popular with some as he used to be but I think that's more to do with his online comments about Argyle stuff than his commentating. I did like to hear his very balanced unbiased commentary at away games previously. Like when somebody kicked one of the opposition into the stands and he would say something like "get up man it was only a tap. What's up with you". Never quite saw the foul the same as the Ref.
Yea I heard him too at the half...I would still prefer to be at the home games and not hear the commentaries but living in Bear Country beats it all..
Yes Sensible, been here since April. Got laid off but after 18 yrs out there it was about time I suppose.
What a change from Sheridan and his A plan only system......to lose Reid quite early on and no panic occurring, because we can adjust our style to suit the requirement and also we have the playerts to do it....is a breathe of fresh air.....three different line ups....and not because we are losing the game. We have a few players here that need to be tied down with longer contracts.....but how do you tie down the manager when others take note of what he is doing......confiming that his Ross County success might not of been a one off......that is the difficult situation....Adams is only on a two year contract....that could easily be bought out by a bigger club.....a longer contract wouldn't stop bigger clubs coming for him....but it might bring us serious compensation if it happened. Who would have thought that Portsmouth needed to score three goals without reply just to get a point at home.....and that we would be one point in front of them already....... Leyton Orient have had on paper four relatively easy games at present, so they might not be as good as their results make them......we just need to take our next home game against lowly Newport seriously and start to become hard to beat at home.
Lets not get carried away just yet. Good start but long way to go. I was having a discussion about this length of contract thing recently and it is a difficult one. The reason or part of it we hid the skids previously was due to the long contracts we handed out with too high wages attached. When we got relegated and some of the money dropped off we couldn't get rid of the players and didn't have the cash to pay them. You can see why it's once bitten and twice shy. It's all well and good if things are going ok but if they go wrong then it's disaster time again. I can understand the reluctance to give out long contracts just in case it doesn't work out. We cannot afford to have a player nobody else wants who we don't want hanging around getting paid for nothing. The trouble is it's double edged doing it that way. If you get a gem, and we might have found a couple, then we could lose them for little or nothing. The same applies to the Manager. Rubbish Manager we can't afford to fire compared to losing one we would all like to keep. It's a rock and a hard place isn't it. I say this because Brent is never going to fund anything where he could lose money. No matter how much we want him to show backing above and beyond he isn't going to do it. Fans forums can shout till the cows come home and that is never going to change. I think therefore it is just a wing and a prayer with the hope players and manager will stick by the club and earn promotions and higher wages with it rather than chance it elsewhere.
As Sensible says, it's early days. I'm torn because I feared we'd be too lightweight and that may still be the case. On the other hand, results and the style of the 9 goals scored together with the fact we've only conceded 1 goal from open play and standard set-pieces in 4 league games, it's very hard not to be optimistic. What would Adams be looking for? A Championship manager position as a minimum I'd have thought. Little point in moving to a League 1 club who are doing badly enough to need a new manager when he has a chance of promotion to the same division with PAFC. If we don't look like getting promotion, then he won't be a target... Would a Championship club risk appointing an unknown quantity until he's achieved something in English football? Given they are awash with new TV money, unlikely I think. I think we're OK this season but if we're promoted in some style, then his successes are going to start to look like a pattern. If we're looking strong with a dozen or so games to play, I think Brent does then need to take the bull by the horns and offer Adams and selected players new contracts. Waiting until the season is over will turn caution into a risk in itself. In his heart of hearts, I think Adams does think he's the Scottish Mourinho and why not? As long as that drives him on rather than making him bumptious, there's no skin off anyone's nose. I think he'd want a big leap because he's worth it and that being the case, he won't jump at the first offer that comes along (unless it's Newcastle lol).
I forgot to mention earlier that I've been reading other people's views on this contract thing and it seems some of the players at least have extention clauses attached. I hope they are right and it is the right players.
Well hope fully he gets us to the Champion ship, then he won't need to move.. But as you say if its looking good near the end.. get them in and offer new contracts. As for the Scottish Mourinho, i will take that any day.. i don't mind him as he has Character and speaks out.. unlike the last one we had.. also is entertaining us again. so far.
