Only one shot from open play and that was going wide. Bartley came the closest. Dreadful game if you think about it, although Liverpool fans won't care because they got the pen.
We'll see , if we get one then the other should follow , when and where though is another thing so maybe it's time to check my old dive bottle for leaks
A 180 + straight away minutes without a shot on goal must be some sort of amazing (terrible )record . I've read more than a few articles and read more than a few pundits comments that we turned a corner with our effort at Anfield and would partially agree. My guestion is why did it take so many straight games with Monks "Favouriite 10 " players to make changes to get to the corner. For me Britton , Routs and Eder keep their spot but Bartley gets the boot. Also , Siggy never had a great game and loses his s,pot to Shelvey( might get a bit of harassment on this one) This performance tells me a lot of squad players should have been in and out of the line up a long time ago.
Sorry to be way behind on this and if it has been spoken about before, but I can't seem to find anything definitive in regards to Fernandez? Is he injured or dropped, can anyone confirm? Because I don't think Bartley is up to it at this level, he'll be on a suspension soon anyway because he always gets a card of some description. Can't fault his commitment at all and I like him but he's usually in the side when he get a proper hiding.
IMO it should be Bartley to lose his position now I thought he did well enough yesterday and without his timely challenge against Bentake in the opening minutes it could have been a long afternoon. I agree with his discipline but I think it's more out of naivety and not actually playing a great deal of football , how many consecutive games has the lad played ? to drop him know would be as inexplicable as dropping Federico but then we have the case of to Taylor who seems to be keeping Tabanou out of the side , according to Jenkins where especially after the last international games he could have rested Taylor .
I was getting a little annoyed with Fernandez of late falling back to much while facing an attack but hope he returns next game as I think Bartley offers very little ( Sorry Matt) .Bartley was well ahead of Benteke and had more time to deal with the problem but almost scoring recklessly into his own goal .Also , a bit later he was clumsy letting a ball come over him and letting another scoring chance happen that , I think , Naughton dealt with
No problem both have their weaknesses and yes it could have gone in as own goal but how many has Federico scored in that respect ?, Bartley as Valley posted has physical presence and did keep Bentake relatively quiet ,every game should be taken on it's own merit but considering Liverpool put 4 past a confident and well drilled unit as is Citeh I thought defensively we managed to limit Liverpools chances to a couple of shots and one that Fabianski had to save .Taking the game as a marker then there was much more to be happy about than not .The whole club has not been in this situation since ? we're only used to recent success in at all levels and this is no doubt a test for all concerned , hopefully the players will kick on and if individual performances improve then it should follow so will the team and the results should come .
