Downing has been shocking for us generally but popped up with a nice goal last night. Who thinks we'll see Stewie kick on and terrorise defences for the rest of the season? (Yes terrorise - even from LB )
Tony Yeboah scored some crackers for Leeds, doesn't mean he was worth his grain in salt. can't let the one goal blind you. BUT it was an important goal and he did OK once he went to LB, but there is the problem, we didn't spend 20 mil on a ****ing LB.
I would love to see it, but lets be honest, it is, as it always has been, in his hands for the last year, one goal does not a reversal of fortunes make.... Prove me wrong Stewie and I'll sing your name on the kop.
With a little of that famous patience that was suddenly available to all LFC customers this summer Stewie should be given a few years to prove himself, assuming the T&Cs of the patience deal extend from manager to players. But probably not. (See the Lucas Protocol for more info.)
I forget hes on the pitch, the guy disappears. Then when he gets the ball, you remember why he disappears. Sterling, Suso and Assaidi all do the opposite.
He's the biggest hypocrite on this forum. And that's saying something. On topic, It was a good goal, but a very average performance beside that. Would be happy with £5-10m in Jan
Stewie has been better this year. Not fantastic but better... he neither deserves praise nor the ridicule he gets. Lucas arrived as a youngster. Stewie arrived as a player who was old enough to know better. Borini is young enough he could improve... not overly optimistic though. We have players years younger than Borini who are light years better. Usually, forward positions favours creativity and energy. It is the Defensive positions favour age and wisdom... no pun intended Andre.
I think him being played on occasion is just to put him in the shop window. He has the ability yet seems afraid to utilise it in a way that he did at previous clubs. One of the commentators during last nights match made a remark that of the 2 previous clubs Downing was tranferred to, the managers that bought him left shortly after doing so(Dalglish & MON).
In his position? He's only 21. I think his movement is good, I'm happy to give him some time to try and find the net more often. On topic, Downing scored a good (and very important) goal but was average otherwise. I'm not a hater, and would love to see him do well, but we have so many more promising youngsters on the way I can't see him holding his place.
To be fair to Downing he has scored 2 and set up 3 goals in the Europa league this season. In the league he started against West Brom but had to come off after an hour because Agger got sent off and he has had half an hour off the bench against Sunderland & Arsenal - That's not exactly a basket of opportunities for the lad
Downing was ****e all game apart from the goal, even Babel scored a few great goals in his limited appearances
