Poor Brian, he can't even cut it in the Conference North now. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14619689.stm
He gets a mention in many books. B·Lit·tle (b-ltl) tr.v. B·Lit·tled, B·Lit·tling, B·Lit·tles 1. To represent or speak of as contemptibly small or unimportant; disparage: a person who B Littled our efforts to do the job right. 2. To cause to seem less than another or Little: The size of the office tower B Littles the surrounding buildings. See Synonyms at decry. Shame really, I liked Brian.
Lest we forget, he worked effectively for free for a long time and managed to keep a whole squad together in literally the worst moments we have ever had (off the field). If those players had hated the manager and walked out we wouldnt have a club now and it is testament to Little that it was only Clint Marcelle (I think from memory) that walked. Can you imagine them playing for free for Molby or indeed Brown? (can I hear a can of worms being opened?) Top bloke.
Was a true gentleman when with us. A lot of people would have walked away from the club at that time.
On another topic, for all those whingeing at the mo just take into account the words I just said - we actually missed Clint Marcelle when he walked. Perspective no?
One of the Gainsborough players lives in the same village as me and suggested (before Little departed) that the problems run much deeper at the club than Brian Little's management/coaching style.
I think Im right in saying that there has always been a brick wall between management (the board that is) and the supporters. This is because the clubhouse on the ground is owned by the supporters and because of the way the club has been run in the past the supporters alientated themselves from the club. I dont think this has been repaired over the last couple of years and it certainly hasnt improved since the new chairman took over with his grand ideas.
I reckon there's a good chance that BL has been sacked by a team in all of the top 6 tiers in the past 12/13 years. PL - Villa D1 - WBA D2 - Tranmere D3 - Hull FC - Wrexham CN - Gainsborough What do you reckon? Obviously on occasion he's jumped before he was pushed.
how the once so mighty has now fallen. i will always remember brian little for his playing days more than as a manager.
Tigers40, you're spot on. I've only been in the club a few times (I don't follow them at all but live 12-13 miles away and been there as a guest). However, it is the oddest atmosphere between a club and its fans I've ever encountered and for me that covers three sports. Don't get me wrong they get behind the players but that's as far as it goes. Must be something about Lincolnshire e.g. Grimsby...Boston...
