    Darren Cann

Just like to mention that I thought his positional play was spot on for the two Tottenham goals. We are all quick to criticise when they get it wrong - but not so quick to give praise when due.

I'm not sure i want to go overboard praising the guy for basically doing his job - it's what he gets paid for. But yes, nice to see any benefit of doubt go to the attacking side.

Your handle reminds me of an old boss of mine many, many years ago. He would say, "I knew I was right, I'm always right. My wife hates me for it, but I'm always right" I used to sit there chomping at he bit to ask him why he thought his wife hated him.

Nowsufferinginspain - it was interesting that one of the viewers who 'liked' my post is a fellow Gillingham fan.
I understand your point that the linesman was 'only' doing his job, but generally speaking in the Premier the linesmen nearly always seem to be up with play - and in a position to see offside or not. Down in League 2 I think that the FA employ a load of donkeys* to run the line - they are hardly ever in line with the last man. ( It wont be much better in League 1 next season )

edit - * that should be blind donkeys .

It was a good call as Bale and the defence were moving in opposite directions and it may have been difficult for the lino to see when the ball was released but I must admit I was a bit confused when the commentators were saying Bale's "just onside" when the paused image showed he was about a yard on. He made some good calls though, another I remember was Ade coming back from an offside position when the through ball was blocked, which you don't often so given as offside.

For Bales goal, Ade made a run back onside just to throw another pair of legs in along the line, the point being the lino can only give his decision if he's 100%. Any doubt, and a blur of legs can do the trick, and he can't give it, if he's unsure at the time he cannot guess, or go on what it looks like.

Yeah, well done linesman. They were tough ones to call and happened at pace. I imagine its easy to be swayed to an incorrect decision when a player is through without anyone within 30yds of him

To be honest should we really be praising a linesman for doing his job correctly?

Think this proves that the amount of mistakes refs and their assistants make now results in people praising them when they're simply doing their job.

Appreciate where you're coming from alwaysright but to me, Darren Cann was just simply doing what he's paid to do. If I'm correct he is regarded as the top linesman in the country so he definitely deserves respect from the footballing community, if only other linesman could follow his example.
