Line Up Against Arsenal

Well we might as well move on after the whole BartonGate scandal and look forward to the first game and I think we should play 4-4-2 as we don't have the players to play 1 upfront after Barton leaving. I'm not sure about the fitness of Marveaux but I'd start with Gosling at RM and Jonas at LM.

Should be interesting to see if Pardew goes 4-5-1 or 4-4-2. Has he even tried 4-5-1 in pre-season yet?

It's basically all about who we play on the right - I'd guess Gosling or Jonas (with Marveux on the left). Let's just hope we don't stick Danny 'RM = CM' Guthrie there.

 

Please, please don't start people off calling this BartonGate. Please.

On your team; I'd possibly play Marveaux before I would Gosling and I'd definitely not choose Forster over Krul or Harper. If Ferguson is fit he should be on the bench along with Abeid but I like the Vuckic inclusion though, would certainly like to see him get time.

This looks solid. Might even be tempted to bring on Vuckic or Abeid second half in place of Gosling, bringing Cabaye back a bit.

I agree i don't want Forster but I think AP likes him as he has had the most playing time, i wasn't sure on Fergie's fitness but if he's fit then he is in the squad no doubt.

 

Cabaye looks like he can play defensive, box-to-box or attacking so I'd be happy to see him anywhere central. The beauty of the formation is you can remove any one of the players (whoever is playing worst) for Ben Arfa's return and that it has wingers on the "correct" side so they can get good crosses in for Ba.

 

Either Krul or Harper depending on Fiorentina game and training. Then

BartonGate was used when he had his violent attack and we were put in a tough position about whether to stand by him or not.

Guthrie could be a brilliant replacement for Barton on the wing IF he learnt to stay a bit wider! Would be a similar type of wide player.

 

Could even modify it slightly and play a 4-3-3

I'm sure Pardew has been playing Forster so he gets to see him first hand to make a judgement. He already has seen what Krul can do but Forster's been away on loan and needed his chance to prove he can do a top job for us, and from the sounds of it he didn't succeed in that.

Yeah, I'm a definite fan of this formation.

I honestly think Pardew will go 4-4-2, though. And probably with Shola alongside Ba .

Think that is more because he hadn't seen as much of him as he had the other 2.

 

as its arsenal i think Pardew will play two deep CM's with Ba upfront on his own.

I really hate the Shola-Ba partnership, makes no sense. We played 4-2-3-1 when Ben Arfa was fit, I'd like to see us keep it so he can slot right in. And I know I'm splitting hairs but if we did play 4-4-2 we could always bring him in for one of the strikers and play him off the shoulder in a 4-4-1-1.

 

Agree, I'm seriously looking forward to seeing our new guys play and this setup definitely makes the most sense.
