It's well and good saying Britain isn't full, because you're right, it isn't 'full'. We do have space in Britain. However, that space is used for agricultural purposes. Destroying the environment and natural landscape of Britain to build more homes isn't productive.

As an anarchist, I'd prefer it if there were no states, no borders etc. but overpopulation and the current threat of environmental damage means immigration control is necessary even if I'm opposed to it. You could argue that taking in refugees is just as useless as bunging money at the problem. The Middle East will still be in flames even if everyone in Calais came to Britain. The problem is the lack of infrastructure, sectarianism, civil war and instability of the Middle East coupled with overpopulation and climate change (droughts and famines caused by global warming was a major factor in the precipitation of the Syrian Civil War).

Some of the posts and attitudes on this thread shame me. They really do. Who gives a **** where these people are from? Who gives a **** if it raises her profile in the process? She is using her celebrity to bring media attention to a largely ignored issue of people in the most desperate situation possible who need support to survive. These people are fleeing, you know - death - and all people do is **** their pants about manufactured borders.

Pathetic.

 

Britain, along with Iceland and Ireland, are probably the only European countries with 'natural' borders i.e. the sea, because we're an island. Despite the bollocks Farage spouts, it's actually easier for Britain to control immigration compared to the continent and their arbitrary borders because of this.

 

I was talking about people complaining about refugees crossing other countries before they get to Calais. It always amazes me how a pop song precisely about manufactured borders is regularly voted the nation's favourite but then when it comes down to it, the cry is "shut the borders".

Kids wouldn't be put at risk if the liberals of Western Europe didn't encourage refugees already in a safe haven to traverse Europe with the hope of a friendly hug from a pop star .
It's disgusting , the best way to help is to all EU members to properly fund and police safe refugee camps in the first safe harbour , so after the war , when Russia do the right thing and put ISIS down and return the government to power.. people an return and help shape a more democratic Syria

If the child is better off with relatives then yes, he or she should be united with his/her extended family.
