The region was but Carthage wasn't until circumstances forced the Romans into rebuilding it.

Because you do the same thing all the time. Whenever there's criticism of the US you say 'what about the Soviets? Hurr durr' as if I'm an apologist for the Soviet Union. You mentioned Corbyn for no reason and you wasn't even correct in bringing him up. Corbyn's never endorsed Stalinism or defended Stalinism, nor has McDonnell.

I don't where you've got this idea that all leftists worship a portrait of Stalin. Do all right-wingers **** over a picture of Ayn Rand and Thatcher?

"If Lily Allen is that bothered, she should sell her 4.2m home and downsize to a small 1.5m house and give the rest of the money to helping these refugees."

That's the only part of your post I quoted and the only part I was taking issue with. If Lilly Allen is that bothered, she's more than welcome to raise the issue with anyone she likes and without some clueless twonk telling her how to spend her money.

    Stop digging pal.

Who mentioned McDonnell? His heroes were Lenin and Trotsky. I was referring to Seamus Milne.

    "you wasn't" You disappoint me.<laugh>

Whereas the North was destroyed for generations during the Harrying, urban and rural alike, and didn't return to normalisation until Henry I when all northern rebellion was quelled or crushed. That's the distinction and why it was unprecedented.

Harrying seems to be your buzz word at the moment.

There was no relevance to bringing up Corbyn or his PR team though. At all.

Also, I wouldn't criticise someone else's grammar when you can barely construct a sentence in coherent English half the time. Glass houses and all that.

Er, because that's what the event is called by historians. The Harrying of the North, or simply the Harrying.

Have you read anything else other than the Daily Mail in your entire life? Books, journal essays etc.?

I have read as much as you. Admittedly not as much garbage concerning anarchists though.

The usual pathetic Daily Mail stuff from the intellectually challenged.

Calling anarchist literature garbage but reads the DM. <laugh>

It's okay, Castro. The Cold War's over. You can stop with the McCarthyist stuff. There's no more Reds under your bed so you can sleep soundly.

I read every paper online, the Guardian site more than most. The ability to do so means I don't buy any paper.
Still, carry on with the pathetic reads the DM jibes of the intellectually challenged.
The Cold War might be over. But with the sabre rattling going on by the country led by an ex KGB colonel who described the collapse of Communism was the biggest disaster of the 20th century a warmer war could be on the horizon.

The only redeeming part of the DM is Peter Hitchens' opinion pieces which are quite good, even if I disagree with him on a fair bit.

What was the last non-fiction book you actually read and when?

This threads too long to read. What's Lily Allen preaching? That taxpayers should be forking out for these refugees? If so he's got a point. There isn't enough money as it stands, it would be far better spent on these shores.

If it was just a high profile appeal for people to make their own personal charitable contributions then fair enough.

His dad's in Birmingham he isn't. I think he should be allowed in to be with his dad. It's not difficult to understand.

Missing the point, Obi. Is his dad here legally for a start. There are are tens of thousands here illegally. Should their wives, parents, children be allowed to join them?

I'm not missing the point. If his dad is here illegally then his son should be allowed in to join him so both can be deported together.

And the odds of someone being deported foreign here illegally are? We can't manage to deport murderers, rapists and career criminals.
