What the hell has happened to him. He has gone from looking like a real prospect to looking like he can't even cut it in league 2. Is it his off the pitch adventures and his alledged poor atitude in training or just that he massively over performed when we were in the prem.

It surely can't be the case that Cooper AND Cairney both 'over-performed' in the Premier League. We treat our youth team players like ****, farming them off to ****e League Two sides instead of nurturing them ourselves. Look at Emerton, he's 20 and every person who's seen him play knows the lad's got talent. He's made the bench once or twice, and other than that is stuck in the stiffs. How can that possibly improve someone as a footballer?

This is an absolute load. Against Ipswich Cooper was arguably MOM. Yes yesterday was a completely disaster but Cooper made 2/3 very good tackles to deny them going through on goal. I agree with Viking Erik; we don't treat the youth team well at all; although Devitt isn't good enough. We have some extremely good prospects for the future e.g. Bradley, Emerton, East at a push but we need to be treating them better. IF Chester/Hobbs leave us at some point; Cooper will be the one to make the step up with Bradley taking his place as the understudy.

Not too sure the younger players have been shabbily treated - doesn't help now the FL clubs voted for just five subs.

Unless they are absolutely outstanding they won't get in the starting sixteen.

But as NB alluded to on a recent radio interview some of the loan moves have been less than satisfactory for both the Club and the players concerned and that in future we would be looking at keeping tabs on their development by their staying with us until we're sure the clubs coming in for our players are right for both parties.

PS I thought Cooper was one of the few to come out of yesterdays game with any credit.

I thought Cooper and Cairney were our top performers yesterday, as was Olofinjana when he came on and although that's not saying much, they should be criticized far behind many others.

Fryatt was awful, and I genuinely think I would've played better than Garcia on the day. East was terrible, and Dudgeon was hardly any better. Hobbs was unusually lacklustre at the back and Mannone looked very wobbly despite a few good saves. Brady and McLean didn't do too much wrong but they didn't do too much right either. King showed flashes of what he can do but his touch was that of a rapist. Cullen was poor, as was Evans.

After being taken to the cleaners by a League 2 side, some players would struggle to get into one of their sides on yesterdays examination Mike.

Leave it out. You chastised somebody for using the boring "knee-jerkers" reaction and you're doing a similar thing here.

To be honest I thought Cooper looked alright yesterday, I think hes a Chester mk2 - looked a similar type of CB composed and calm on the ball and not afraid to have it at his feet or bring it forwards into midfield himself. Looking forwards to seeing more of him over time.

I wasn't that impressed with him during the match and came on here afterwards saying so but to be fair to the lad he needs a proper run of football somewhere. When you have two great centre-backs like we do in Hobbs and Chester then I suppose it can make the fringe players look ordinary.

When we were relegated one of the the worries was losing our youngsters, the future backbone of the team,
    Oxley, Cooper, Cairney and Cullen.
What happened to the that backbone? - turned to jelly.

People were worried about losing Oxley?

Cairney has lost out because his ego seemed to take over the summer we were relegated, and even if his attitude has picked up since he's never recovered his position in the squad. I guess it's the effect of having Everton looking at him, teenage girls throwing themselves at him, and Bullard as the fun role model in the squad all at the same time.

Cullen, god knows what's happened. Watching him in games I can only think that they don't have linesmen when they play for the reserves/youth team.

Cooper last season got hurt first by the signing of Gerrard, despite him being right footed he seemed to prefer playing on the left of the defence. That was with Ayala in place. I can't help thinking that Cooper going to Carlisle when we signed Chester was part of the agreement with Man U, them not wanting to recall him early and leave them in the lurch in case it stops them taking other players in future so that ruled him out of the 2nd half of last season. This season he's got no chance of breaking into the team. It's between him and Hobbs to partner Chester, and even with Hobbs the backline is shorter than the opposition so we're not going to give up an extra 4 inches or more.

The Carlisle fans loved cooper they thought he was better than Chester! So he can't be that bad a player.

And Cullen maybe would have gotten noticed a bit more if he was a bit taller, he's that short no one can spot him! Seriously though he looked to have bulked up a fair good bit.

I rate Cooper and I thought he was one of the few players to come out of Saturday with any credit, I don't understand this thread at all.

I thought Cooper was one of the few to emerge with any credit from Saturday, unfortunately with a centre back pairing of Chester and Hobbs performing so well it's gonna be hard to get in unless there's an injury. At least by loaning the young players out we've given them the opportunity for game time rather than let them go to waste in the reserves.

Have to agree with ^^^^^^^^^^^^ this. Liam Cooper was one fo the few who played well saturday. Saved a certain goal when heading off the line for starters. Cooper has proved he can cover for both Chester and Hobbs.
Danny Easts game IMO suffered after his booking. With Attwell as ref. one more and he was off. We have some good kids but the previous management have treated them badly. Hope NB can re-address that now.
