http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/footba...loose-and-demolish-in-form-ipswich-â-report Can't say I've read it yet, but it was put up 3 mins ago
I'm back already. That's a good report by Clive. I like the way he acknowledges the simplification in what Henry and Carrol's roles were in this game and how they were used to deconstruct an average championship side.
Me too, just finished it - good report, Carroll & Henry really stepped up in the absence of Barton, as for Henry the KISS principle really worked well. Great to chalk up 3 goals too and nice to see goals from players other than Austin - in that position, even if you concede late (like at Millwall), you're not dropping points. Looking forward to seeing us do Huddersfield 4-1 at Loftus Road (Nahki Wells can have one).
Despite loving the sound of his own voice swords, he's actually a decent bloke that I have met on many occaisions certainly knows his football & whilst i dont always agree with his opinions (suprise) he bleeds blue & white hoops. A mate of one of my closest friends back home....(yep its still home)
Swords, why do you bother reading Clive's match reports if you feel that way regarding the content since you always end up saying the same thing?
Good report and maybe, just maybe the way forward is without Barton. Carrol has earned the right to have a run at controlling the midfield i believe. just watching the game again now ,ok>
Excellent report thanks Grifter. If Joey is to spend a couple of weeks on the medics table, will be interesting to see if we can continue this form
Good report. I have to admit though I was concerned when Joey went off. My fears where soon allayed though. Our midfield is the best part of the team IMO.
"Tom Carroll to dictate the direction and style of passing, and he did so with real aplomb. Where Barton will often look or a miracle Hollywood ball over 50 yards, Carroll gives the ball simply, but almost always in a forward direction" This part was spot on. Very good performance from Carroll, passing and moving and kept hold of the ball well especially when towards the final third of the pitch
Interesting that this report confirms my suspicion that Henry's introduction allowed the other midfielders more freedom. Good to hear that Carroll played so well, which must have been a direct result of having more cover afforded to him by Henry (none of O'Neill, Barton, Carroll or Jenas are defensive midfielders imo). I note that Clive obviously doesn't rate Traore, but I'd like to see him given a chance on the left of midfield.
Yes it's spot on imo too. I'm surprised you didn't get more support in the match day thread than you did as I found it be match decisive myself. It's a very good point and one to give Harry a selection and tactically headache in the near future.
I think that's possibly because a lot of people don't like Henry and to be fair, he had been pants in the previous couple of games. I feel he may be a necessary evil however, or someone like him. It's not rocket science that when you play a naturally defensive holding midfielder, the rest of them can play with a bit more freedom.
It's a good positive write up from Clive and you get the feeling that he actually enjoyed the game as well, makes a welcome change to see the side perform well especially after the last 3 or 4 games.... Plus he does like the Red & Black strip.......
