seems a shame to not develop a new ground if h&G sunk 35million into designs etc so far. I realise they are twats but to just scrap everything seems a waste
Red, in reality writing off those debts for the H&G stadium is far better for the club. It actually brings the prospects of a new stadium even closer. The costs presently sit on the club's accounts and effect our corporate financial flexibility. By removing them in one hit we can look to finance the new stadium unencumbered. It also means that the ties that exist to the location of the new stadium are removed. As infra-structure expenses are not included in the Fair Play rules we are now free to invest in both the team and the ground without one affecting the other. You also have to remember that the plans themselves still remain the property of LFC (over-priced maybe). They can be adapted to meet newer and bigger possibilities in any location. It would not surprise me to see LFC move away from Anfield altogether. That would mean that the costs of the new stadium could be mostly met by the selling of the naming rights without the encumberance of having to include Anfield in the name. If you think about it a new site would mean that the income from Anfield would not be effected whilst the new stadium was built - important if the building time covered more than one season. I am now very interested to see what is announced over the next few months. Also I am now more convinced that our owners will invest in the team this Summer
The last parting gift of H&G! 40+ million spent on various Stadium designs, 35m of which were not viable. Ach, we knew it before these figures were released. The last H&G dog turd bagged from our garden. without these exceptional figures we were pretty much even while bringing in a lot of new players and no champions league, our commercial side of the house grew and has the potential for continued growth, again without champions league football. Ayre seems to suggesting the same will happen this year while they continue to take a responsible economic based view on both options of new stadium & Anfield renewal. Message? We're holding to FFP, Continue to grow the business side of the house, have the ability to bring in more players and the stadium issue is still developing. I'm happy enough.
I would also like to point out that the figures do not include the new kit deal with Warrior Sports which is worth £25m per year. In addition, this years accounts should look a lot more promising for the reason above, potential sales of older players who are on higher wages (e.g. Kuyt, Maxi, Cole, Aquilani, Aurelio) and also playing in the Europa League.
£35m of that was stadium cost which does not count towards FFP so £15m isn't bad at all when you consider the £25m a year Warrior deal isn't counted in those figures thing's are looking up

CPofL - I did say 'potential sales', you uneducated pleb. No wonder London is going downhill with the people like you in the area. I cannot wait for London (and the UK) to be socially cleansed to get rid of the likes of you. The only concern I have is that I think we would be making a big mistake of getting rid of so many experienced players in one go. It would mean the likes of Shelvey, Henderson, Spearing will be playing with less experienced players. Getting rid of the aforementioned players, we would lose players not only with experience, but who have a good mentality and understand what it's like and what is expected to play for a big club. At the moment, players like Hendo, Carroll, Downing, Adam don't know what it's like to play at a big club with high pressure which is in my opinion, the reason why we have failed this season.
Are you talking about experience that experienced players give during training or during the game? Because quite frankly how often do Kuyt and Carra start! THe only one on that list I think we really would miss is Carra and that's why I hope he'd get a coaching role with us
Why the hell are you talking to that muppet? The accounts are of far more interest when you really start to consider what the indicate for the future of the club. It's these issues we should be concentrating upon. When you think how hopeless the financial situation was less than 18 months ago, these figures show a lot of strength and commitment.

The answer to your first question is year to July 2011. I don't have the yearly value of the Addidas deal to hand but could look it up (well guestimate thereof) if its that important. Suffice to say that the Warrior deal is far higher than what Addias were prepared to offer. On face value it looks like a good idea to clear out the debts as exceptional items in the year 2010-2011 as it leaves the floor clear going forward. It has no effect upon the Fair play standing of the club and does have some tax benefits. If I were FSG, I would consider clearing the decks now.
Both. These guys are internationals, played for big clubs throughout their careers so making the step up to Liverpool was pretty natural for them. Also, they are winners. They know what it's like to win cups either with LFC or previous clubs. For players like Hendo, Carroll, Downing etc - they can learn from these players, how to become better, how to adapt to a high pressure environment etc. They don't know what it's like to win trophies and the Carling Cup is probably their highest achievement. We need more winners in the team. Coates and Suarez have both settled in pretty well, and with Suarez in particular, you can see the desire to win everything. He has won the Copa American and helped his native team in South America win the league, and also helped Ajax win a cup and challenge for the title.
