Pompey make one of their shortest journeys of the season when they visit east London to face Leyton Orient on Saturday (3pm kick-off). John Mousinho’s men will be looking to maintain an unbeaten run in League One that currently stands at 12 games. Their opponents have started the new campaign with successive defeats, going down 1-0 at Charlton on the opening day. They followed that up by losing 2-0 at Championship side Plymouth in the first round of the Carabao Cup. But Orient have been on an upward curve since Richie Wells took charge at Brisbane Road in March 2022. He immediately helped the club pulled away from the League Two drop zone then led them to the title last season. It means they are competing at this level of English football for the first time since 2015 – which included two years spent in the non-league game. Pompey have not faced Leyton Orient since the triumphant 2016/17 campaign, with Christian Burgess netting the only goal in the capital. They did also win 5-2 in a pre-season friendly last summer – a match that was moved behind closed doors because of the extreme heat. TEAM NEWS Paddy Lane (ankle) and Tom Lowery (knee) are the only senior players missing for Pompey this weekend. Orient striker Joe Pigott – who spent last season on loan at Fratton Park – is likely to feature against his former club.
