I thought here was the best place to start a general football-related thread. The huge sums of money in football today got me thinking. I don't want to start a rant and sound like a prize idiot, so I thought of a lighthearted game instead. I'm challenging people to come up with a team of players in the premier league and downwards that would realistically cost less than ã10m for someone to buy them presuming their contracts are not running out or expired (per player, not the whole team!). The only other rule is that they must be English or Welsh. My effort: Loach (Watford) Walker (Spurs), R.Johnson (Birmingham), Williamson (Newcastle), (Help me out!) Cork (Chelsea/Burnley), King (Leicester), Howson (Leeds) Sinclair (Swansea) Graham (Watford) Lallana (Southampton) I'm sure others can do better!
I said English and Welsh because England and Wales are the Premier League and Football League. Hope that didn't upset anyone.
you mean from English and Welsh teams - so that we can actually pick someone who is an Irish player in the Premier League and is good value
Bellamy (Cardiff) Carroll* (Liverpool) Burke (Cardiff) Ramsey (Arsenal) Wilshere** (Arsenal) And I'm pretty much stuck on the rest, although mainly I can't be bothered, with a dash of "doing something else" thrown in for good measure. *Anyone who tells me Carroll is worth more than ã10 million is either wrong, or a Liverpool fan. No matter what some prize prick paid for him, he's worth ã10 million tops, more like 7-8. **Paid ã8 million for him on FIFA 11, so there.
Fair enough, just trying to get a team that rules out the ã10m+ players, ie. most of the current England squad.
That's quite a good idea, best team to contain 0 caps (for any country, senior or junior) between them? Although that's a different thread for a different day...
