He does but given the attributes he has he could be such a better player. Yes he does the dirty stuff and his passing is actually very good, he just needs a kick up the backside because he's so timid on the ball there's no urgency or setting of the tempo. It really irrates me when fans boo players who pass it sideways and backwards alot because I just think they're keeping possession but Skuse genuinely frustrates me he's just content to play the simple ball when he could set the tempo of the game.

No he needs someone to kick him up the backside, IMO he's more than capable of doing the Garvan stuff (maybe not aswell) himself but his mindset is just wrong!! When he was out of our team in the second half of last season our midfield looked far more balanced because we had more than 1 willing CM willing to try to attack the opposition and up the tempo

Garvan is slow but he makes the ball do the work and actually although he wasn't the most tenacious his positional play often got him out of trouble. I think him and Hyam could work together

I can't see us signing Garvan, we already have Wordsworth who is in a lot of ways a very similar player to Garvan and I would imagine Mick would like a player with a more physical presence about them to compliment what we already have.

Also, glad to see Lita isn't likely to be offered a contract, as I would rather have young Marriott have his place on the bench instead of Lita, as Marriott is proving this pre season that he is worth the place in and around the first team

    Ah Owen Garvan, interesting one.

    - Fantastic left peg. Can split a defence open like I can chop up a carrot.
    - Comes looking for the ball out of defence.
    - Keeps possession well and likes to go forwards when possible.

    However ....

    - Cannot play in a 4-4-2.
    - Doesn't win headers.
    - Bottles tackles.
    - Very slow.
    - Very poor right foot.

Not convinced on Owen G really. Possibly on a one year deal he may be worth signing. I guess he's a good squad player. When he's on form he really is very good, however when he's off especially away from home it's like playing with 10 men.....

Silverware in the 90s? Please enlighten me. If you're accepting 'silverware' as a third division title for the 10s, which narrowly qualifies, then it's really scraping the barrel.

The young ones are so easy to wind up and are so glass jawed.

    Poor darling......

Must be so hard for you ipswich fans being so successful over a long period of time and so modest as well.

Both are creative but both are different players IMO, I don't ever really see Wordsworth being a dominating midfielder or controlling the game, he shows nice touches and definitely has quality on the ball but is more like a Tommy Miller type player who when on the ball looks decent and doesn't do alot wrong but for a CM can go missing for large chunks of the game. Love Garvan or hate him when he was here if he was having a good or bad game he'd never shy away from the ball, IMO that's the sign of a good CM player.

I can't see any harm in playing Garvan in a 442 with Hyam or Skuse, he played there with success in his first spell with us

That may be true, but when Garvan was having a bad day he was absolutely horrific.

Wordsworth looks a more altogether player to me than Owen G. He could really have a big season for us this time.

garvan is a metronome. use him in the right way and he'd make you click. if you expect goals and amazing assists you're looking at the wrong player but in terms of keeping and loving a football, he's excellent and i wouldn't be against norwich signing him. was very surprised when you let him leave in the first place. clever, 'brains-above-brawn' footballer.

Garvan's not for me, would rather somebody slightly more dynamic.
