Well i have to say that i think Leicester are showing real intent this season, it is said that Danns is having a medical today and Macail Smith is in talks as Leicester have had a bid accepted. To me this is the kind of business we should doing, not wasting time tying up the signing of people like Ellington.
As mentioned before, i am getting slightly worried about the quality we have been linked with lately and am just praying that PJ has a few aces up his sleeve because as it stands we would be a low - mid table team at best.

If Leicester can get these two in and a few others i would back them for auto promotion everytime!!!

Take note Town, we need to act to compete with these teams and MIDFIELD is a priority!!

Now off to slit me wrists!! Second day of no smoking and its killing me!!!<grr><steam>:emoticon-0107-sweat:headbang::emoticon-0121-angry

Im with you spanish, i think leicester will be a force this season. Was never keen on Sven, but he certainly has the knack of signing good players. And i also agree that im not convinced with what PJ has bought, and is looking at. Chopra, ok, not a bad signing, but ellington, ingarmasson, and now probably Michael brown?? No thanks, we need young, hungry players who want to impress, rather than old has-beens who are just looking for a pay cheque!

They showed real intent last season, as soon as Sven took charge, and it nearly happened for them. Only failed because of the lack of quality in the squad. Will be different this time round.
They could well be 'The Team' next season in the Championship and leave the rest behind in their dust.

You both seem to be forgetting Sven has basically been given unlimite funds, whilst we actually have a budget and wage structure. So of course he's far more likely to land the better players for this league.

We have signed 3 players and it has cost us around £1.2m in signing on fees. I am sure ME has much more available, at the end of the day you have to speculate to accumulate, if we are only looking at freebies/loans then we are in big trouble. At the end of the day they are saying promotion is worth £90m a year, well worth going all out for promotion i say!!

    Ingarmarrson will do very well.

Another CB needed, im not a fan of us at all in MC, another wideman and keeper ( not a fullop fan )

Leicester for me are the team 2 beat !

Danns has completed his move to Leicester and they are also considering making a move for Maynard as well as Mac Smith.

I'm more than happy with Ingimarsson and midfield is deffo a major priority, lets just hope we can get the required quality in and not just some old journeyman in it for a quick buck/easy life!!

We can't compete financially with them Spanish! Sven is a great manager when he's got huge financial backing but as his years with England proved he can't cut it with limited resources.

The Leicester board's combined wealth far exceeds that of Marcus Evans. I wish we all could get away from this idea that he has unlimited financial resources to throw at us because he hasn't! We are just one arm of Marcus Evans' group of companies with profit and losses to justify. Thats why we have a strict wage structure in place and thats why we are probably losing out on a number of signings! Personally I would rather have a football club to support than one that threw huge amounts of money at players only to go bust! Just look what happened when Sheepy was in charge!

I don't agree but hey ho, each to their own!! ME has shed loads of money, plenty of which is in offshore accounts, nobody knows his true wealth but it is more than published!!!
Basically what your saying is 'we can never compete so may as well give up now and accept that we will only ever be a mid table championship side at best' Not that it matters because at least we will still be in existance. If that was the case we should all just give up suporting Ipswich now, coz i for one would rather us take a few risks to gain promotion!!!

    Only my opinion you understand!!

<laugh> Spanish I think you are taking everything out of context!

The whole point about supporting Town as I have done since the early 70s is that we have never been a big club with huge financial backing behind us. Everything we have achieved at this great club has been on a shoe string but with extremely talented individuals who have made the whole thing work as a collective. Bobby never had money to spend and neither in the early years under Burley! Royle had to pick up the pieces after we spectacularly went bust after Burley threw huge money around and our club has never properly recovered up til now.

I support Town like many others because I grew up with it and its now part of my DNA. Win, Lose or draw my support will never diminish and I for one am proud not to be a glory hunter.

Yes and i since the late 60's but that does not mean i have to accept mediocrity. Sorry but its not about being a glory hunter but you need to have a winning mentality or whats the point and that goes for being a player or fan!!

Thats like losing every week and saying 'oh thats ok, i'm not a glory hunter' what a crock bud!!

Also STOP living in the bloody past, things ain't like that no more, money talks and if you are not willing to spend big then you can forget a long stint in the top division. Yes you may get a fleeting visit but thats it.
In the old days you had club loyalty and not the massive wages like you do now, we were able to pick up good youngsters without them being offered massive sums by the big boys, which is the way today!!

    Spanish no worries mate! <ok>

This is why we have this forum to share our views and opinions! We both want what is best for Town and you are right we need a winning mentality otherwise whats the point. I am only suggesting that spending huge money isn't always the answer. Joe Royle put together a cracking team with no money but with a few astute signings and by working with what he inherited we nearly got promoted twice. Marcus Evans has to decide whether to stick or twist and like you say just bloody go for it!

The most annoying thing over the past 3 years has been the fact that we have paid good money (for this league) for just average players who were quite content in just picking up their big weekly pay packets. Evans has shelled out at least £15M on transfers since he took over and we have gone backwards while at the same time the Budgies have spent very little and have now overtaken us! Work that one out!

At last we have a manager who knows what he's doing and I only hope that Evans will allow PJ the funds he needs for us to seriously challenge. I really think that we have reached a critical moment in the life of Marcus being our owner. He will not tolerate another year of mediocrity and he now has to show he means what he says about backing us with money for promotion. Being realistic PJ has had to pretty much start again with the squad as we all know he needs to make at least 7 quality signings all through the team and in just 1 window that's a huge ask!

Personally I don't think that Evans is really a football man and I suspect that he believed that a few million quid would do the job to get us into the Premier League, because without that he cant recoup on his investment. I think that he now realises that that is not the case. To be honest, I'm easy either way. I understand where Spanish is coming from, but equally wouldnt blame the guy at all if he said that the Club has to pay for itself. Personally I prefer the prudence even if it comes at a price ie we dont play in the premiership. I'd rather concentrate on playing the likes of Wickham, Wight and Hyam any day.

Spanish / JWM..... Ding ding and round 2

I have followed the Town since I was old enough to remember, and this must have been the late 60s to be honest with ya, I striongly agree with JWMs entry at 0143pm earlier today..... But then Spanish in your 0159pm entry, you are quite correct in what you state..... So where do we go from here is the question..... And this is the best bit about this site, it gives us a chance to air our views and make our points..... Personally, I would rather watch my beloved team play in the Ridgeons league than go bust and out of buisness, and I am being sincere about that..... My journey following the Town like many of you on this site, has had its up and its downs..... Home grown talent, a scout system that worked wonders during the 70s, 80s and 90s (To a point)..... But now we are in an era, where to be fair you have to buy your success..... And this proven by Manchester Utd (Van de Sar, Vidic, Nani, Anderson, Ronaldo, Rooney to name but a few)..... Yep I would rather have players who have come through the ranks and make the Town into a force, rather than pop down Aldis and buy what we want
