For me Brownie started off being a tremendous manager, getting us promoted, and getting us off to a flyer when we were up there. The bubble burst for him very quick though, and I'm sure he would do a lot of things differently if he was in the same position again. It seemed like he had no control over players in the end and his ego expanded to gargantuan proportions. The last 18 months were horrendous with the tactics all over the place and bizarre comments to the media. Pearson has only been our manager for a year but I already prefer his approach and way of building for the future to Browns. I don't want to see mercenary scumbags transferred to the club ever again, bleeding us dry and taking the piss, like what ended up happening with Brownie. Each to their own I suppose.
Unfortunately Mclean/Twf/Percy has rose-tinted specs on this issue, wouldn't surprise me if he was son of Duffen or something
My sentiments exactly. The calender year of 2008 was probably the best time most of us have had supporting the Tigers. But from Eastlands onwards things detriorated badly, even our FA cup quater final was marred with the controversy of spit gate which created even more of a circus around the club. Full credit to him for keeping us up that season, but the first 4 months of that season saved us and it felt like the writing was on the wall for us that following season. A few good performances against the likes of Chelsea, Man City and Spurs means little when you can't get results from those teams around you. NP looks to be sewing the seeds of a bright future here and hopefully we'll be tasting success again soon. We could have done much worse when appointiing managers last summer, he's a decent manager at this level who's achievements shouldn't be sniffed at. He might not be everyone's cupm of tea but he's the bloke we have in charge, support him and get behind the team and hopefully those premier league days will return soon.
Most fans have that opinion, when Brownie was great he was great, but it was like somebody stuck a needle in him and all the good stuff came out and we had a shell of a manager left in the end. UTT and lets hope the young players we have now turn into worldbeaters, glad we don't have anymore overpaid numpties here for a holiday in Hull anymore

They got us success at a huge cost, a cost that nearly saw the demise of Hull City. Now I find that if you are lauding a management that got us into that sort of position your as blinkered as Phil Brown's ego was in our second season in the EPL
The mangement INCLUDES Duffen/Bartlett and ALLAMS/AP, it is not just the the football manager. One can not work without the other. AP admitted his mistake in bringing in Dowie but would we still be in the EPL, I doubt it. We wouldn't of been able to bring in the players needed for one thing
I understand about the mercenaries etc but if NP ever does get us up who will we look to buy to keep us there? How many of what we have now can do it in the Premiership? Rosenior, Chester? TC? Stewart? Brady wont be here. Phil Brown played Ash, Ricketts, Dawson, Myhill, Turner, ***an, Garcia from his Championship team. I can not see any apart from those named above who will cut it in the prem, so NP would have to buy more players than Brown.
By the way, when I said agree with Percy, it was purely on Phil Brown. I don't get him when it comes to PD/AP/NP etc. To be fair you're right, the thread was about the legacy left from the previous management. That has to include Browny, but most of the points raised are to do with the hierarchy of the club. There isn't an answer to the question 'Would we have stayed in the Premier League had Phil Brown not been sacked?' In my opinion yes, under PB we would have got enough points in the last 9 games to stay up, but people can equally say keeping him would have left low morale among the players, thus we wouldn't have done any better than under Dowie.
The fact that TURNER was sold for a packet of crisps Whilst under Duffens watch is more than enough for me to hang em all. If Briown had had any feeling for the club and fans he should have quit on the spot and told the fans what was going on. I gave up after Turner left. The club almost paid the ultimate price for crass stupidity.
