Never get tired of watching this. Love the way charlie says "This was world class at the time and it still is" and Phil Thompson "This was a proper team and these were proper players" Love Gilses flick at 1:40 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5N0pycFtmU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I long for the days we see actual quality and class at Elland Road again. If we played Southampton now, they'd beat us 7-0 and be the ones taking the piss.
I doubt we will ever have a team with that sort of quality ever again, even with a billionaire owners ££££ to buy players Footballers back then were less fickle about who they played for, they were far more loyal to clubs. But that was some team. We would do with a couple of "hardy hardy players" now
That team is the reason I support Leeds now. I remember longing for match of the day to come on every Saturday to watch those boys. No twitter then telling us where they ate and **** last and we were the better for it. Im sure though if those guys were around now, they would be equally ruined by the big money as todays stars are. Just take a look at what Lorimer turned into over the years
I remember when Southampton were 3-0 up (at the old Dell), and we scored 4 in the last 25 minutes. I almost got the crap kicked out of me so many times that day
What a fantastic team that was. This interview below with Mick Jones just after he and warnock took over from Grayson He says in this interview that the current leeds players should not compare themselves to the great leeds team because "you are atlking about unbelievable players back then" he goes on saying that's the problem with the past that it's a burden on the players. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKx1RILjxeA&feature=youtube_gdata_player
A real football team, made the media darlings and greatest team ever look so average George Best retired early. The stupid money in football today is killing the game yet nobody is doing anything to stop it. Roll on the day Sky goes bust and all clubs are competitive again. Be great to see Lge One and Two clubs averaging 12k a game and good young players being bought from lower divisions to keep clubs going and bringing through BRITISH talent.
Goodman Billystatue can't forget the Irish talent. but in reply to your post, you are bang on, the game is ruined today with over paid average footballers. Id say a good 60% of the players today would not have lasted a game against the teams of the late 60's early 70's. Thwey would just whinge,, whinge , whinge saying how rough it was.
Sky Sports 1 subscription for a year - £390. Thats the cheap option. The people who are paying that to Sky are the ones who have ruined football.
