Huddersfield sacked Lee Clark today. Very strange since he was clearly doing a good job and was tipped for greater things. All accounts are that he wasn't knobbled by Bates of Leeds or anything like that.
Agreed with the above. Unless there's something untoward that isn't being revealed, this doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Even if they think he's been tapped up by a bigger club, why sack him rather than hold out for compensation money? Very strange. I think a lot of Championship managers are going to be anxiously looking over their shoulders in case their chairmen decide Clark is a better fit for them! Give him another five years experience, and I'd love to see him at the Cottage.
This is a strange one, played 30 this season and won 14, drawn 13, lost 3. They are pretty decent stats. He will be snapped up fairly quickly. I would love to see him back at Fulham, who knows may well end up as Jol's right hand man. Good luck wherever you feet take you Clarkie.
They draw too many games and lost their derby promotion-6-pointer with Sheffield United on Tuesday. They can do better.
Thanks, Viking Erik. It still seems like a short-term response to a manager who has been very good for Huddersfield over three years or so. I read somewhere that this might be a case of clearing the decks because Neil Warnock is now available. That would make a certain amount of sense - his track record suggests promotion would follow with a reasonable level of certainty - but it still seems harsh on Clark.
Huddersfield have spent a lot of money for a League One side, and have probably the league's best player in Jordan Rhodes, these facts combined means they should be going for automatic promotion yet find themselves in the play offs. Charlton have one of the spots nailed on and the owners probably feel that Huddersfield will have to settle for the play offs, which of course are a lottery. Clark is a good manager and they would have gone up last year were it not for Southampton's impressive run toward the end of the season (12 wins from 13 I think) He will get snapped up in no time.
