Clarke said: “I am absolutely delighted that Lee has committed himself to Bristol Rovers. He has turned down interest from League clubs, and I am really pleased I could persuade him to stay. He was one of our more consistent players last season, and his assist rate and the creation of goals from his position was very important. He will be an integral part of the team for next season.” Higgs said: “I am very pleased that Lee has decided to stay with the club. He was one of the bright sparks last year in a back four that was largely effective. Although we will be bringing in new faces, it is good to retain some stability at the club." http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/brown-extends-contract-1649826.aspx
Lee Brown interview will be on Youtube later to hear from the man himself, however, Rovers official twitter has quoted one thing that Brown has said: The defender says he has a special connection with the club, and wants to give something back to the fans https://twitter.com/Official_BRFC/status/479542403540713472
With all the negativity at the club with the rumours of players not showing for training, players not caring, a drinking culture, obviously the relegation as well and a few former players saying the club is badly run (which we know anyway), a player who was one of our better players last season and has had offers from several league 1 & 2 sides, this shows bloody loyalty at a time when we need it. Clarke is getting all new signings to sign a code of conduct at the club before they actually sign their contract. He is also getting existing players to sign the code of conduct as well. Im not saying Brown was involved in and bad activity, like some were apparently, but he must see a lot more professionalism from the club now as well. Also in my opinion this can only put pressure on Smith to follow Brown in signing a new deal.
Great news. We need the likes of Brown at the club. He's probably a contender for the captain's armband too...
