He looks to be a stone overweight, does not close down defenders, is bone idle, cannot hold the ball up and worst of all cannot finish.
Never mind comparing him to shearer I think billy Whitehurst or frank pingel is more appropriate for those with long memories.

Charlie Austin scores today for Southampton. People are saying he wouldn't consider us, if someone like Keegan was in charge (or director of football) do you think he would have said no, I doubt it. Charnley could not attract fleas. Mitrovic 13 million, Austin peanuts in comparison

Apparently he turned down other northern clubs too. He made it clear that staying in the south was his number one priority, even if it meant staying at QPR. We've got plenty we can justifiably moan about, but not this one.

Yet some fans still won't accept this! Why the attack on Mitrovic today is beyond belief - absolutely no service for him and completely mobbed by Watford players! Getting sick of fans turning on our young players!

Mismanagement yet again. McClaren sticks him up front alone in a system that hasn't worked once this season. Mitrovic would be scoring goals under better management. Funny that 'the donkey' was a regular scorer in the Champions League against top opposition before joining us.

There was no way he was going to prosper with us playing 3 at the back with wing backs. It left far too big a gap between Mitro and the midfield, leaving him totally isolated. Unfortunately we didn't have much choice in defence as we had no left back, and who could we have played as a lone frontman? Totally exposed the need for more defenders today - even more than it did for a goalscorer.

He does not look like he wants to run, he waits for the ball coming directly to him. I agree service is poor but that is 6 or 7 chances spurned in the last 6 or so games.
He needs to get fully fit first not overweight.
The point I am also making is keegan/hall or someone with personality would have got Austin by selling the club and region to him, like Ferdinand, Ginola etc.

If we don't a left back and a goalscorer in before the end of the window then we are going down.

When you have an MD like Charnley and a DoF like Graham Carr then you not going to attract the likes of Austin.

I think it was less about the region and more to do with him having a (relatively) newborn baby girl. I'm sure I read somewhere that it was all down to his Mrs wanting to be close to her family.

    Did he have a chance?

Answer, yes. He did. A good one. As per usual, he missed.

If he wasn't so bleeding slow and thick, he would have had more opportunities. He also did a piss poor job of the only thing his supporters cling to, this odd notion he holds it up well...

Totally agree, in this league chances are few and far between, and we cannot afford to spurn them. But the rest of his game is not good enough by far to justify his inclusion (apart from the lack of options) in the first 11. 13 million should mean he can do a much better job than this. but it is his lack of effort that lets him down more than anything.
Look at him defending in our box, nothing. Dont want to compare him to shearer but how many headers did shearer clear from corners and free kicks.

Really, really disappointing for me today. That "flick" he tried/failed when we had a promising break was fecking criminal. It wasn't just the chance he missed - the crosses from both Janmaat and Wijnaldum into the six yard box would have been buried by anyone half competent - Defoe would have had a hat-trick today and I now realise that, had we had a goalscorer playing from September, we would be mid-table, comfortably. It's a bad league and we're somehow propping it up.

Aye there was a fantastic cross from Shelvey right across the box in the first half as well, which he didn't even smell. He doesn't have the brain to be a Shearer unfortunately, much less the ability.

Defoe is the best striker in the North East, unfortunately.

I wonder if the club approached Shearer, he would come in and do one or two one-on-one sessions with Mitrovic each week for a few months. He needs some coaching in most areas but personally I think there is enough there that he could become a good player. There would be no one better than Shearer to guide him as that is who Mitrovic should be modelling his game on. Also, Mitro looks well short on confidence and the coaching staff need to be working on his psychology.

I may change more than the wind, but I fear JPF called this one right - he'll make a nice career, probably in and around Serie A, he suits Italy down to the ground where it's slower, patient and just requires some muscle to put the ball in the net. Shearer can't help this kid, you're either a goalscorer or you're not.

Perez has much more about him but in England to be up top you need some ability to either run a channel or hold the ball up; Perez wants to collect it too often. It may well be if we scramble through that Armstrong can become what we need, but more likely we need someone with talent up front. When we took Remy on loan we had a very similar formation, with worse players. The bloke scored for fun. We somehow need to find a Loic Remy type talent, but there ain't many around. Romelu Lukaku is a £27m player, or was, and that's our level. I'd argue we now need to spend whatever it takes, so whoever is good enough at a club worse than ours has to be a target. Berahino is worth a shot, but we need someone to talk up the no.9 again and sell it to someone who fancies themselves to do the job. Again, there ain't many I can think of who can get you the 8 or so goals you need between now and May. Saido's head isn't at this club, neither was Austin's. i think everyone's open to suggestion.

I'm certainly not saying we shouldn't be trying to sign a proven goalscorer. Been saying it for over 12 months and now is no different. I just think Mitrovic is a work in progress and if he had the right guidance he would be better player for it. I don't regret signing him - not yet at least - but the club shouldn't have been so stupid as to think he was ready to bear the burden of being the main goal-getter when he's so young and inexperienced. I agree, we need to pay whatever we have to to get what we need, and I also agree that I don't think Berahino isn't the right player for us. The only viable option seems to be Remy on loan and I suspect he's holding out for something better and stringing us along yet again.
