Southampton v Wigan I liked what I saw of Southampton in their defeat against Manchester City on Sunday. They were gritty, worked hard and had a go at the champions. I also understood what Saints boss Nigel Adkins was doing when he left his star striker Rickie Lambert on the bench. If he had put him on from the start and had him chasing full-backs and centre-backs he would have been shattered after 60 minutes. So, instead, he put him on later when it is the defenders who are a bit tired. Southampton were still in the game at that point so the gamble paid off and Lambert made a difference. I think Lambert will start this game, though. He took his goal against City extremely well and he does look like he has the confidence of a player who has scored a lot of goals in the past couple of years. Wigan, meanwhile, reverted to type for me against Chelsea following their spectacular finish to last season. The Latics were all over the place for the first 10 minutes, although they went on to create quite a few chances. They really do need to focus for 90 minutes and defend properly because at the moment they are just not very good at stopping the opposition. I would put you down for a win, but, if Lawro's put a home win that's probably put the mockers on it!
Indeed Fran, the egg is specifically reserved for Ramirez outcome. Which of course will be a positive one.
Yes, if Ramirez signs, I will be watching every single second of MOTD2 and 3 until Colin Murray takes him to task.
It's arguably one of many "six-pointers" in the lower echelons of the Premier League this season. It's a game you realistically need to (should [and I think you will]) win
Want to avoid this 6-pointer stuff so early in the campaign...it'll start everyone worrying far too soon.
Good luck with your "six-pointer" vs Carlisle, Devon. Actually, as many have said, it's a bit early for these- we don't know who will be our rivals at the bottom, middle or upper echelons of the division. Neither do you in yours, yet.
Lawrenson was Radio 5 Live Drive this afternoon, giving his opinion on the weekend's matches and I was on the phone to a customer, so I missed it. Must do a listen again, to hear what he said. Think it was around 5 to 5.30pm. EDIT: Typical..! Didn't mention the Saints v Wigan match.
watched him on MOTD, what the **** is going on with his neck and throat? it was like watching a turkey with a scouse accent
he hardly ever predicts the right result let alone score, guess there is no point turning up tomorrow
